The Charlotte Bobcats and free-agent forward Gerald Wallace have agreed to a contract, the Observer has learned.

A source close to the negotiations said Wallace will sign a six-year deal worth $57 million. The sixth year of the contract will be Wallace's option. He also can earn bonuses worth as much as $2 million each season.

Wallace's contract with the Bobcats, who obtained him in the NBA's expansion draft in 2003, expired at the end of last season, and he briefly became a free agent.

After the Lewis deal and even the Carroll deal this had to be expected. Like dj said it is amazing although I see he got those incentive bonuses which can count against the cap.

right now,
he's paid more than every knick but 2 and he's making about the same as Curry.

He's also a more versatile, better two-way player than any Knick.

Nice deal for Wallace.

Nice deal for the Bobcats too.
If it didn’t work in Phoenix with Nash and Stoutamire... it’s just not a winning formula. It’s an entertaining formula, but not a winning one. - Derek Harper talking about D'Antoni's System

Good Deal.

He got about what his market value should be but wait.... I thought the Knicks could send Jamal and Malik over and the Bobcats would jump at such deal. I thought the Knicks were a lock to sign him.(like all the other so called big names mentioned in rumors)(rolling eyes)

It's so funny going through each off-season watching FA's that this team desperately needs to acquire sign elsewhere, meanwhile we hand out full MLE deals or orchestrate mind boggling S&T deals or trades for players we shouldn't want or need to acquire.

BTW Matt Carroll is not overpaid! I don't understand why some have their panties in a bunch over his contract. He makes less than the MLE as he should. I think what distorts peoples thinking is the yrs. Yeah he got 6yrs so what, he shoots the ball extremely well especially from the arc and plays hard every night.

$27mil/6yrs=$4.5 and considering his first yr salary will be less than the avg by about $1mil=$3.5mil how is he overpaid? If he's overpaid by how much is it? If he gets better over the course of the deal, which he very well could, wouldn't his contract be a steal?
