We have Curry, Lee, Rose, Randolph, and Morris as big men who we know are going to be here next year barring a trade. We need one more center in case of injuries. That center should either be Cato, who seems like a good mentor for Morris and Curry, or another young prospect. That means JJ1 pretty much needs to be cut to make room for the rookies. He is owed 3 years and about $18 million. If we can buy this guy out for $12 million, we will save $12 million in cap and luxury tax dollars. Simply put, it is time for JJ1 to go.

Has anyone heard from Cato and if he wants to continue playing? It would have to be at a minimum salary

Im down but youre going to have to buy him out at full price, theres no ways giving up 6 million dollars when he will be lucky to make the roster of any other NBA team

You might be right because I think JJ1 is more than happy just sitting on the bench and getting paid his checks, but IT will have to do something. I don't want to cut Nichols or Rose or even Dickau, who I think can be a solid backup pg for us. I think IT is going to make a trade to do some consolidation, but we probably will still need to cut somebody and I would rather keep Fred Jones than JJ1.

Cato/Morris

While thats not a great backup plan you have to remember James is only good for 5-10mpg anyway before fouling out

Cato is not coming back. There is no room for him anyway.

Exactly, Cato and Morris will be just as competent backup centers as JJ1 and both will likely play without committing a foul a minute like JJ1. I would even be okay with going with Rose/Morris as our backup centers. Rose played alot of backup center for us last year and was decent at it.

Why did we pay him 5yrs $30mil if that's all he's good for?

because that's the max you can give a player if you're over the salary cap!

What about giving Jeffries the same plus trade kicker since Nichols and Chandler are the next coming?

Its the same reason people take lump sum pay outs vs. annuities on the lottery- having the money up front has potential value over getting it over three years.

Granted- we might not be able to save $6MM- perhaps its $3MM we save- still, its erasing a mistake & clearing a roster spot.

Do you think Isiah knew we would have Chandler and Nichols last year?

Before we signed Jeffries we needed shooting and perimeter defense so obviously if I SAY UGH had a plan in place, by not getting one last yr he surely should have anticipated getting a shooter/defensive athlete in this yr's draft.

Jefferies and James both have to be gone if we want to develop some of these guys.

what's the point in cutting jerome when he's poised for a breakout year?

Naw he's doing more than that. He's giving Curry piggy back rides up every step in The Garden. So that next yr when I SAY UGH decides to put him in the starting line-up it's because James is threatening All-Star status and not because he wants to gimmick up the sixth man award.
