Was it always day first before the month? example today is July 2nd 2007, and the date reads 02-07-2007, was it always like that? I thought it was 07-02-2007, I could be wrong though

Just a little FYI, I remember learning recently that it's day/month/year just about everywhere in the world but in the US.
