He was on Ch. 2 as well. Steph is more affected than I realized, but he did say he was going to average 10 ppg this season, so that's an encouraging indication that he gets it.

I'm still confused, who's he gonna be this year, Starbury or Marbury?

Starbury: "We Can Steal a Trophy"
By Tommy Beer
Jul 2, 2007, 01:26

Stephon Marbury was in rare form as a guest on NBC's Mike'd Up Sunday night. The normally reserved and reticent Marbury seemed less than lucid as he was extremely talkative and touched on a number of different topics.

First he was asked by host Bruce Beck about the Knicks recent acquisition of Zach Randolph. Marbury gave the move two thumbs up. "We got a great player. With him and Eddy (Curry), they are going to be frightening on the block. Those are our two go-to guys. Kudos to Isiah Thomas."

After expounding upon the skill-set of Zach Randolph for a few minutes (basically making Randolph sound like a combination of Hakeem Olajuwon, Timmy Duncan, and Larry Bird), Stephon then went on to discuss the Knicks (suddenly promising?) future.

"Now we have to starting planning on how to win a championship. This is when you start planning. Me, as a leader of the team, I have to convince them of a way how we can go steal a trophy. People are going to think we are crazy for talking like that. But if you can believe it, you can achieve it."

Starbury was then asked about how having another scorer in Randolph would affect his game. In a response that had to make Knicks fans smile, Marbury acknowledged that he would have to reign in his scoring even more so than he did last year.

"I think I am gonna average like 10 points and 12 or 13 dimes," said Marbury.

Stephon then went on to discuss his philanthropic charity work, specifically "Starbury's Give Back Day," in which he continued his immense support of NYC students and teachers.

------

A few other topics that were touched on:

• Kevin Garnett: "I was just telling my friends in the car that I want to call KG and tell him that I am sorry for anything that has ever happened or anything that has ever been said or done between us. What I said about Amare being better than him.... for me saying that I caught a lot of backlash about that... I want to apologize to him and I want to say sorry to him for anything that ever happened."

• On his relationship with Isiah Thomas: Marbury said the relationship was "beautiful" and that Isiah was "a man's man" who could "see the light."

• On the Dallas Mavericks: "If everyone would have had an opportunity to put down all their money on Dallas to win the championship, I bet they would have done that. We want to get to the point where we are like Dallas."

• Champion aspirations: "At the end of the day, if you don't win the championship, we are all losers. We all always want to win the trophy. We call that shiny stuff."

• At one point Marbury's cell phone went off and he explained that it was his better half trying to get in touch with him.

------

As the interview was drawing to a close, Stephon began bopping and dancing in his chair, explaining that "I do this like that...to keep me closer to the light."

An interesting interview to say the least...

Maybe he is been hanging out with Tom Cruise at Scientology HQ. How long before we hear Marbury say--I need to play the Starbury way.

You guys had to see it!!! It was like watching a Mike Tyson interview. You didn't know if he was gonna cry, scream, say nothing, shout, or start jumping on the chairs.

Words can't do it justice. It needs to be seen to be believed.

- But hey, the good news is that we haev such a strong and stable locker room leader - so Randoplh will defintely be held in check. Riiiiight

Sounds like anti-depressants to me. I should pre-face this saying I like Stephon and I think he's a good player and I believe you CAN win with him unlike many others--but acting like Tom Cruise is kind of scary

It may have been pain-killers or something like that...

I was looking for a youtube clip of last night's interview and came across this old clip:

Yeah he was pretty much off the hook. I caught him on channel 2's sports show too so I was flipping back in forth. It definitely had the feel of a Mike Tyson interview. I think he is genuinely happy and at peace within in himself.
