Knicks coach accused of coaxing cheerleader to flirt with referees

(AXcess News) New York - Knicks coach, Isiah Thomas, was accused of coaxing a cheerleader to flirt with referees in court papers unsealed Friday in a sexual harassment suit against the Knicks by former executive Anucha Browne Sanders.

Sanders had filed court papers in response to the Knicks attempt to have her lawsuit dismissed in which the ex-senior vice president of marketing and business operations for the professional basketball team alleges that Petra Pope, a Knicks cheerleader, told her that coach Thomas encouraged Pope to flirt with referees before a game against the Nets in 2004.

Sanders testified that "Isiah asked her to go into the referees' locker room and make them happy."

The Knicks have said in a statement that Sanders sexual harassment lawsuit was "riddled with fabrications."

Sanders, 44, is seeking reinstatement of her job and unspecified damages.

Coach Thomas has said that Sanders is only looking for a payout against Madison Square Garden.
