UB hires Browne Sanders as Associate AD

The University at Buffalo on Thursday evening announced the hiring of Anucha Browne Sanders, who was most recently the senior vice president for marketing and business operations for the New York Knicks. Sanders has been hired by UB as the senior Associate Athletic Director for marketing and senior woman administrator.

Also, John Lambert, the former Associate Athletic Director for External Relations, has been elevated to senior Associate Athletic Director for Development, and Christina Hernandez has been promoted to Associate Athletic Director for Internal Operations.

In 2002, Brown Sanders was promoted to the position of senior vice president of marketing and business operations by the Knicks, making her one of the most powerful African- American female executives in professional sports. She held that role for nearly four years, until January 2006, when Browne Sanders was fired by the team.

Several days after the firing, Browne Sanders filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against Knicks General Manager Isiah Thomas and Madison Square Garden, the corporation which owns the Knicks and several other New York sports franchises. The lawsuit is still pending.
