The trade below allows the Knicks to get Kobe. This could be the best offer the Lakers could get from any team in the league. Since we have Zach we don't need Curry anymore. Kwame is added in the deal to bring a defensive presence in the paint at center. Lakers get a bunch of talent and the Knicks become the best team in the East. The Lakers have a bunch of free agents so they could take on all these players.
New York Trade Breakdown Outgoing Eddy Curry 6-11 C from Thornwood (HS) 19.5 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 0.8 apg in 35.2 minutes Jamal Crawford 6-5 SG from Michigan 17.6 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 4.4 apg in 37.3 minutes Jared Jeffries 6-11 SF from Indiana 4.0 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 1.2 apg in 23.8 minutes Renaldo Balkman 6-7 SF from South Carolina 4.9 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 0.7 apg in 15.7 minutes Nate Robinson 5-9 PG from Washington 10.1 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 1.4 apg in 21.2 minutes David Lee 6-9 SF from Florida 10.7 ppg, 10.4 rpg, 1.8 apg in 29.8 minutes
Incoming Kobe Bryant 6-6 SG from Lower Merion (HS) 31.6 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 5.4 apg in 40.8 minutes Kwame Brown 6-11 C from Glynn Academy (HS) 8.4 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 1.8 apg in 27.6 minutes Change in team outlook: -26.8 ppg, -19.9 rpg, and -3.1 apg.
Successful Scenario Due to New York and L.A. Lakers being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. New York and L.A. Lakers had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
