Randolph
Q Rich
Crawford
Marbury

mark jackson--are you kidding me? when it comes time to rely on defense--are these guys going to get it done? Monsters of the midway here folks. No speed on the perimeter and nothing to defend the basket in the froncourt. And each guy wants 20 shots!

You're right. We're not good defensively. We're not a great team. But we're getting better. Randolph is a step up on Frye who was not a good defensive player either.

Haha...

"not gonna get it done".

God I hate when he says that.
DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

Speaking of defense and speed on the perimeter, Mark Jackson didn't display either. But his point is valid. Marbury had improved defensively. The biggest weakness in this regard is Crawford. We need to upgrade our d at the 2.

Marbury has improved his D with effort and he is strong enough to guard players who like to post up, but he is weak when guards penetrate - no lateral quickness.

The new yoots defensive shiftline

6'6 Collins, excellent defender from the point, a floor leader
6'7 Balkman, energy and hops to defend the perimeter
6'11 Jeffries, tenacious and disruptive in the passing lanes
6'9 David Lee, excellent rebounder and rugged defender inside
6'10 Randolph Morris, better footwork than one may expect and can learn

look deeper than the usual suspects

2nd Line
Collins
Crawford
Jeffries
Lee
James

Bench
NRob
Nichols
Chandler

"this is good--no one can shoot past 5 feet."

Briggs - which is precisely why Zach Randolph is a significant upgrade over David Lee

I still think jefferies starts unless he's moved for artest.

Marbs (improved defense)
Crawford (gotta put him back in the SL)
Jeffries (good perimeter defense, make no mistake about that)
Zach (boarding is defense)
Curry

Lee, balkman, collins, nate (if not package for artest)

It's better than last year.
Let's go Knicks. That's amare

If they aren't going to try to get by without interior defense, they need to change their guards.

It's time to begin actively transitioning to the post Marbury era.

You put out a second unit that had a flaw of putting the rock in the basket past 5 feet.

Let's just use logic. Points and rebounds were NOT a problem for us *except* when JC was hurt. If I was sitting behind the Knick desks--I wouldve gone right to EC's FGA's and realized this man IS NOT getting enough of them because he shoots the rock at 60%--12 shots in not enough--he needs 16-17. My primary believe that to improve the team I needed
A. a player from the 2 position who could adueqately fill in as a guy who can hit an outside shot off the bench and add to the depth [we didnt take almond when we shouldve/couldve]
B. We shouldve given Channing frye a chance to find himself and if they thought?????? it wasnt going to happen--then use Channing as a guy to help find a player who does compliment EC and can take some defensive load off of him so he can concentrate on his superior offensive skills.

I dont think we needed both Nichols and Chandler--

Fine, but Marbury at the SG instead of Crawford. If there is one guy that IT is not going to put on the bench it's Marbs

I keep forgetting that bum is on our team, I wish we could just cut him. No way he deserves minutes over balkman or Q.

Don't confuse what we fans see with what will happen. Marbury will definitely start. Crawford and Q will probably start........... and the season is going to crash and burn quickly.

As usual there are all the doom and gloom predictions of how this will all work around here. I just don't get it. It's not so much about a teams defense as it is about a teams point differential. You want your team to be able to play with a positive Point dif. and to be sure having a good defense can help, but you have to be able to score too as Clev found out in the playoffs. Our team will be slanted the other way. More O than D. But it's high % O. This is not going to be easily defended once we get this team fully set up with shooters.

I'm hopeful that Q will comeback healthy and resume his great shooting from early last year. jamal will get better because the lane will be filled and that means he's gonna have to take more jumpers from a set postition. This to me is his strength. He shoots much better when his feet are set than when he's trying to take his man off the dribble and shooting leaners. We still have Nate who is a good 3pt shooter. Steph actually started to hit the 3 better as the year went along. He's taking more of a set shot 3 than the super high jumper his used to take. This seems to give him more accuracy. I think Nichols has a chance to not only make the team but actually contribute a little this year. A 6-8 pure shooter is gonna be hard to leave sitting on the bench on this team. We'll see how that progresses, but I get the sense that well be alright from the perimeter.

There's also still the possibility of another trade. I think Isiah realizes what this team needs to make it really work and he's not gonna stop until he get's the needed pieces to complete the picture. Is there any doubt that we have some good trading chips left to make something happen?

That's a very good point about point differential. We're a team that should score very well and rebound very well. I'd feel much better if we could play good d and if we could cut the turnovers. But we'll win some games by dominating inside.

We will have a tonn of offensive foules, turnovers, and 24-sec
It will be very easy to defend us - just stay in front and let Knicks players make their share of mistakes.
With hareble defense we have, this will be enough to win for almoust any of the opponent.
actually this was the main game plan for the teams for Knicks last year. and we are even more suspect now.
We will probably have one of the most predictable offense in NBA for a long time.
Coaches of other teams will take a day off before Knicks game...
