The Knicks are laying back and waiting to see who falls at No. 23. A year ago, they were caught off guard when Marcus Williams was still on the board when they picked at No. 20 (they took Renaldo Balkman) and then took a point at No. 29 in Temple's Mardy Collins. According to a source close to the Knicks, the team is making sure it has thoroughly vetted all the possibilities of who could fall so they are more prepared this year. That means the pool for the Knicks is even larger and that no promises were made out of New York this spring (discounting the one for DePaul's Wilson Chandler). But the key from the Knicks is that they are "thinking out of the box," and that they could care less what the perception is of who they draft, as was the case a year ago when they picked Balkman.
SOME MORE...
It looks like Brandan Wright is in danger of slipping. At one point Wright was considered as the third best player in the draft. However, Wright has struggled to convince teams that he's even remotely ready for the NBA, which has had a chilling affect on his stock.
Milwaukee would consider him at No. 6, but it looks like Conley, Yi and Green are ahead of him on the draft board. Charlotte would look at No. 8, but not if Noah or Brewer was still on the board. The Bulls aren't in love with Wright, which means he could slip all the way to No. 10. (sacramento)
Queenie Says: TRADE FRYE, NATE & #23 and GET WRIGHT
• Charlotte at No. 8 seems to be another big pivot point in the draft. They are talking with a number of teams about trading the eighth pick for a young veteran with a reasonable salary.
Queenie Says: Maybe the NY Times article was the truth...but Isiah rejected the trade proposal
OTHER NEWS OF NOTE:
The Hawks brought in Al Horford and Mike Conley on Monday. From what I can gather, they are still leaning strongly toward Horford at No. 3.
There is still a lot of talk about the Hawks trading No. 11 if Conley isn't on the board. While we've heard Jarrett Jack in the past, it appears the Hawks have their eye on Seattle's Luke Ridnour.
In my mind, the guard they should go after is Jose Calderon. The Raptors want into the draft badly and Calderon would be a great fit in Atlanta -- and they could absorb his entire salary because they are under the cap.
• On Monday, I thought Julian Wright was slipping, too. He had been struggling with an ankle injury and didn't appear to be gaining traction in the draft.
However, after several phone calls on Monday evening, I think he's still in the picture with Milwaukee at No. 6. Also, the Bulls are considering him at No. 9 and the Kings appear to really like him at No. 10.
If he slips below 10, I think teams will be making a big mistake -- I think he has one of the biggest upsides in the draft. I don't see him getting past the Clippers at No. 14.
