They're kind of similar players, except Varejao is pretty much better at everything, right? Flopping, rebounding, shooting free throws, being a fan favorite, better hair...

Jerome James is available? We need a center, gotta get him.
Larry Brown is looking to leave Detroit? Gotta get him.
Eddy Curry has a heart problem so he's available? Gotta get him.
Jared Jeffries is available? We need defense, gotta get him.
Anucha is leaning over a desk? Gotta get a piece of that.

I think Isiah might have been trying to help JJ2 get a bit more money from the wizards- not expecting they'd let him go.
Still, I think JJ2 has better days before him- but, I'm not sure its on this squad- we've got a bunch of intangible guys already- Lee & Balkman. I'm not sure there is room for three.
He played better later in the year when he got time when Lee was out.
You will undoubted vividly remember the many 3 pt bricks that jeffries launched when he was open on offense- partly a sign that he wasn't being put in a position to succeed on offense.
I hope next year will be better for him.

Bringing him in on the heels of drafting Balkman didnt make much sense at all... Especially given the salary ramifications. I appreciate Zeke bringing in a hard working guy and attempting to change the dynamic of the team, but duke is such a poor offensive player. His free throw shooting is unforgivable and embarrassing.
