Balkman 2007

Chandler update: The official reason for DePaul’s Wilson Chandler skipping a workout with the Bulls this week was an ankle injury, not a shoulder injury, as was written here.

One league source suggested the reason Chandler has stopped working out for teams is he expects to be chosen by New York with the 23rd pick, which would be an eye-opener. Most projections have the 6-8 forward going in the second round.

Source: Arlington Height Daily Herald

NBA Comparison: Joey Graham

Chandler has impressive physical tools, with a great combination of strength and athleticism ... He can leap out of the building and create some highlight reel dunks ... He's a very smooth athlete with a knack for finishing ... Chandler has displayed an improving jump shot and his ball handling skills are slowly developing. As primarily a power forward on DePaul, he has developed some post moves and become a very strong rebounder ... His rebounding ability will set him apart from many small forwards a la Shawn Marion ... He is also a solid shot blocker who seems to be at his best defensively in the paint ...

Weaknesses: Chandler is listed height of 6-8 is very questionable, as he appears closer to 6-6 or 6-7. His intensity at times seems questionable, as he doesn't really seem to have the hustle attitude. Like most tweeners, he is not ready to play on the perimeter full time and lacks the quickness to defend top caliber wing players. His jump shot is still in the works, though it has improved, he has not shown the type of range necessary for an NBA small forward ... His shot selection seems very questionable at times, as he is too willing to jack up contested jump shots.

Weird. As steph said, we need a shooter. He seems to be a clone of DLee/Balkman - hustle with no shot. But he's 6'6". Uh, we need a shooter. Zeke - stop trying to outsmart everyone else. Just pick Almond, mike redd part 2.

Good find. I do wonder why he'd draft a Balkman type hustle guy again. This guy does fancy himself a 3 pt shooter, which isn't actually a good thing since he can't shoot that well. He's built more like a Ruben Patterson type.

NO way we draft this guy. We already have Jeffries and Balkman at SF. Why would we draft another small forward, especially a second round talent, when guys like Sean Williams and Almond will likely be on the board. If we are going to waste the pick on a flyer, we should draft Jared Jordan, who looks like a poor mans Steve Nash.

this is balkman at 20 all over again. If we had a second first rounder, ok... but Draft ALMOND.

I think I want to see Watts drafted. The guy looked like the Smaller Ticket in those YOuTube videos.

Ever go to scout.com? Here's some inside o Wilson. He was ranked the 50 best player, 12th best foreward. I seen him play a little bit. He wasn't really a big huslter from what I saw. He made what I saw look easy, maybe too easy. That could be deceptive, because of the level of some teams they played. Get him into the NBA and it could be a totally different story. Someone mentioned him being another Balkman. I wouldn't say that exactly. Just another note, chicago is not well known for developing great players. They're basketball systems, DePaul, Northwestern and Loyola rarely brings out a superstar, so don't be too high on any of they're players.

I like the draftexpress article. He's definitely an intriguing prospect and definitely a gamble. I have to agree that this sounds like an Isaiah kind of pick.

That sounds kind of scary. More gambles. I will stick to my guns and say as I been saying. Unless we can package and get a legit star, maybe the best move to make is the one you don't' make.
I'll never trust this' team again.

Yep

based on his description and play (lack of hustle desire) he sounds like he will fit right in with
Zeke Thomas team and plans

This is a guy who's definitely not nba ready. The pick works if he applies himself and learns to handle the ball better, plays strong d and improves his shooting range and foul shooting. But those are big ifs.

Judging a pick like this requires that you know a lot about the player as a person, which puts us all at a great disadvantage.

Zeke already said his next draft prospect is not playing right away. Or maybe for even 2 years.
