[Durant's agent Aaron] Goodwin said that Durant has seen what Stephon Marbury has done with his "Starbury" brand shoes -- launched successfully in 2006 at $14.98 per pair -- and wants whoever ends up signing him to market a mid-range priced shoe, likely in the $39-$69 range instead of the $100-$125 range.

"Kevin wants to do it," Goodwin said. "You have to understand he came from a place where none of his friends could afford to spend $120 on a pair of shoes."

Thank you mythfaze. Good to read news that there are some basketball players who are concerned about the message they convey and not simply the chedda.

Imagine if they ever realized the power of influence.

Cleveland — Cleveland Cavaliers reserve swingman Ira Newble hugged and shook hands with 15 refugees from southern Sudan, his special guests for Game 4 of the NBA finals Thursday night.

Newble has become an activist for Darfur, a region of Sudan where four years of warfare have left more than 200,000 dead and 2.5 million people displaced.

"A lot of people are losing lives right now. This needs to stop," said Newble, a former Hawks player. "This is a form of genocide. It's no different than the Holocaust."

I love it. That's some decent news for a change. Get your paper but at least try to make sensible deals.

When I read the title I was thinking, "Durant must have showed up to the pre-draft testing with 'all alone' on his shoes"

Great find Mythfaze, let's see if the NBA promotes this type of news that would eventually give free advertising to this young man durant.

I thought he might've said he was "the best point guard in the NBA." Nice to have good news for a change...

I too, was fearful of a Durantbury situation.

Pulling a Marbury generally means you put your foot in your mouth, so the thread title is misleading.

I thought he said Lebron don't win, he is a loser like all the rest!

DurantBury willing to take a discont endorsement contract?

Actually, good for the young man at 19 to be "THINKING" about things instead of emarking on a year long shopping spree.

I have no problem with guys like Durant and Marbury making millions off these shoes. But coming from a poor background it's great to see guys doing things like this. Kudos to both and I hope they make millions while helping the rest. I grew up wearing 10 dollar buddies and being made fun of because I couldn't afford Jordans. NEither could the people wearing them.
I just hope that people will like me

I always thought it was insane how highly priced those shoes were and that people paid so much for a pair of sneakers. But I guess that's just how it was. From that perspective, the whole thing is a good thing, and a very smart business venture for Marbury. The only knock that I've ever had is people claiming that someone who is making millions and millions of dollars from a smart business decision, that his only interest was charity. That I didn't agree with. Otherwise, I think it's a good venture, and quite saavy, actually. It shows a lot of business sense from Marbury.

If you ever spotted a pair of McGrady Nike's at an Outlet Store (as I did) priced at $180... you KNEW things were out of control. The silent majority simply forked over the money to look cool. A few thinkers started to ask questions about labor practices and obscene profits.

A select few actually responded with proactive ideas and DID something about it.

LOL...I rememeber that song. Sorry Bip, I probably would have been one of the guys teasing you to. I wore Jordans, Magics converse weapons (the yellow, purple and white) etc. And your right, I couldn't really afford them either. I was a spoiled little brat

BTW, Sarah Jessica Parker is now in the charity business too. She has a line with Steve & Barry's. She too is doing her part to make life easier for the suburban white crowd.

Did he proclaim himself the best forward in basketball?
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

Are urban folk gonna thank her too?

Or is she going for the trailer trash crowd?
