Teams Agree To Swap James For Howard

The Minnesota Timberwolves and Houston Rockets , who have been discussing a Mike James-for-Juwan Howard swap in one form or another since the February trade deadline, have agreed in principle to finally complete that deal this month, ESPN.com has learned.

An announcement of the trade's completion could be made as early as this week, according to NBA front-office sources.

The holdup stems from the possibility that another player or two could be added to the deal, sources say. The teams, though, have verbally agreed to a straight-up exchange of James for Howard at the very least.

Houston needs another scorer. I'm not sure how Mike James and Rafer Alston will coexist, though!

The trade makes sense for both teams. Minny wants a Foye and McCants backcourt, their front court is pathetic outside of Garnett. They get a professional P.J. Brown type vet to pair with KG in Howard, while trimming future salary. Houston just wants scorers with Adelman there.

Its a great trade for Minny actually, they clear a little cap room and open up things for randy to start, which they should have done last year. They didn't do it for Howard, first smart move McChale made in a long time

Great deal for Houston. They never should've traded James in the first place. I'm not sure where that leaves Rafer Alston, though.

But, excellent move by the Rockets. They've improved their club again (but undoing a bad trade of two years ago).

My only question is who is the Rockets PF? They're thin at that position without Howard.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

They are both from around the way, THEY WILL BE FINE

Fascinating. Does that mean KG is planning on playing more center? Assuming McCants shows himself to be healthy (and has improved while being injured) and Foye plays like the summer league version of himself, they'll have a very solid offensive back court. Throw in Ricky Davis and Trent Hassell and you've got a pretty solid offensive top-6.

Houston really needs to find a starting-quality PF (someone in the neighborhood of 6'9").

Right, I guess they feel that he's ready to log major major minutes, since they have little else.

I think it was a great trade for Minnesota. Howard can play some center and is a very good all around player. Big for small doesn't usually work out well for the team that takes the small.
