why are they playing garbage? they look like the bad news bears and these are the players that are poised to bring a championship to ny for the first time in 6-7 years? i can not believe they got swept by philly and looks like the dodgers are poised to do the same thing. the schedule do not get any easier and they are floundering. delgado and beltran are not coming up with timely hits and the pitching staff is becoming a joke. i rememebr in april when the knicks were playing like @#$%, i said 'hey at least i have the mets". now they are failing too. get your &^%$ing act together!

they are stinking now because that genius omar minaya has built a pitching staff that should be collecting Social security. Glavin, El Duque? come on! and their young guys are not that good, mane? please.... They are looking bad right now...

injuries are not an excuse. every team has suffered through injuries. case in point, the phillies lost two relief pitchers and howard is not 100%. but they sure dismantled the mets. we still had our three prime guns healthy ( beltran, delgado and wright) and more time than not they were in prime position to win the game with people in scoring position. what did they do? CHOKE! i swear, they better not mess up and have the hated braves and phillies pass them. more "good news" is that the yankees are finding their groove and we have to play them in the boogie down. great.

They havent produced runs as of late. I think the body language has been poor. Many of their back of the bench players have been brutal. The karma has been off. A lot of games we couldve won we lost which has set a little spiral here. Need to get off in more than one inning.

looks like the injury bug has hit the Mets the same way it hit the Yankees early in the season... i'm not hearing much trashtalk coming out of Queens these days.

They'll be fine, they were kind of cruising and now they're going through a tough stretch, it happens to every team. The pitching has been good, El Duque had a 1.93 ERA until last night and now has a 2.38. Sosa is 6-1 in 7 starts @ 2.64, Maine is 6-3 @ 2.78, Perez has been good enough and Glavine has been solid enough. The problems is offense, the Mets are terrible with runners in scoring position. I listen to almost every game and watch them when they're on TV, they are terrible in tight games. They don't have enough situational hitters but they will get out of this slump, win the east and still be the team to beat when it matters.

tkf - Omar Minaya is not the problem.

has there ever been a more proactive (or creative) GM in the history of the NYMets franchise?

there is a 1-2 year window for the mets to win the world series.

but you never know...they can always sign up dontrelle or johan in a year or two. (although i hope the yanks go nuts and get johan to join wong and hughes - that would be the best 1-2-3 in baseball).

the Mets window is so large as the steady stream of inspired baseball talent

OF Martinez in 2009 will be fun to watch

with this staff. glavine and pedro have 1 more year (after this one). and duque is up there as well. they must replace those guys, as well as their outfield (eventually) so with this unit, they really need to win it this season or next before they have to do a semi blow-up.

Don't confuse me with a Mets fan, I bleed Yankee blue. I do think the Mets play has suffered because of the numerous injuries they've suffered, just like the Yankees play did earlier in the year.

I would love to see the yanks get johan to join wang and hughes, that would be the nastiest front 3 of any rotation in years... I would throw 130mil over 7 years at johan, he is that good, hell zito got what, 120mil? talking about overpaid...

with a team full of youngsters like Julio Franco, Paul LoDuca, Shawn Green, Moises Alou, Pedro Martinez, Orlando Hernandez, Scott Schoeneweiss, Guillermo Mota, Aaron Sele, Billy Wagner, Carlos Delgado, Damion Easley, José Valentin, Ricky Ledee & Tom Glavine, the future is bright for the Metropolitans... for me to poop on.

i would give johan the mike hampton contract.

with clemens + pettite coming off, as well as abreu, yanks should throw all those $$$'s at johan, no questions asked.

Oh man that crap pissed me off. Even though I'm as diehard a Yankee fan as they come, my idol growing up and favorite athlete in ANY sport was and still is Ken Griffey Jr. When I heard that crap about Milledge being the next Griffey I was so pissed.

Just as a sidenote, I'm happy to see Griffey having a great pain-free year so far this year, hopefully he keeps it up. Just as another sidenote, the sport of baseball would have been so much better served if Griffey never got hurt and HE was the one chasing that HR title. Barry Bonds owning that record is just an absolute tragedy and spits in the faces of guys like Hank Aaron and Babe Ruth.
