this was posted on the sonics board over at realgm.
it's 2nd hand info, and the legitimacy has not been proven.
but it's something to talk about.
My neighbor's son, who is in high school, came back today from a basketball camp at Rutgers for elite high school players. They saw a presentation from an NBA scout, and it just happened to be a scout from the Seattle SuperSonics. People were calling the scout Rosie, so maybe that's a nickname or his last name is Rose, or something. (Maybe someone who's familiar with the scouting staff will have more information than I do.) Anyway, the guy talked a good deal about his team and is very bullish. Some of his statements:

- He is 100% confident the Sonics will re-sign Rashard Lewis. Not "I think it's going to happen," or "we have the inside track," but "we're going to sign him."

- He thinks Robert Swift may actually have benefited from his injury. He's been hitting the weight room hard (including leg work as part of the rehab), weighs a solid 270 and is now the strongest player on the team. This scout apparently is one of the people in the organization who pushed for drafting Swift, so maybe he's biased; but in any case, he believes Swift is going to return next season and be an outstanding center very soon.

- The organization's message to Luke Ridnour when the season ended was you can never, ever miss an open jumper. Since then, in his daily workouts, Ridnour has stayed in the gym each day until he hit 500 shots.

- Lest we think this man is just talking up his own team indiscriminately, he doesn't appear to be a fan of Saer Sene. He says the league where Sene averaged 4 ppg before the Sonics drafted him was no better than a high school league.

- No surprise here, but he is absolutely sure Kevin Durant will be a Sonic. No draft-day surprises by Portland, and no trades.

- None of the kids asked him about the chances of the Sonics moving. Of course, this is just a scout, so he probably doesn't know anything we don't know from the news.

- He also dished on some other teams a little, which is surprising. He said the fire sale in Phoenix is going to happen, although he doesn't see the Sonics getting actively involved (or otherwise hitting the trade market in a serious way this offseason).

- His choice for the biggest stiff in the NBA is, drumroll please, Kwame Brown. Limited moves around the basket, no touch, bad timing on his leaps.

Well, there you have it, for what it's worth. This is hearsay from hearsay, and for all I know, my neighbor's kid just made it all up. But I do think he's honest, and I know he's pretty smart. Overall, this is a scout who likes the team he has and doesn't think a whole lot is going to happen in the offseason.

(Steve Rosenberry heads up college scouting for the Sonics. He happens to live on the East Coast. )

I'm calling it I bet the Sonics do not re-sign Lewis. He'll leave in Joe Johnson like fashion except to a team that has a chance to win. He'll sign in Orlando or Houston.

LOL. Sonics can re-sgn Lewis in Joe Johnson fashion and then trade him in Joe Johnson like fashion.

I think only the Bobcats have the space to sign Lewis straight up.

You know what I meant. Lewis will want out and for a S&T. Now if Seattle is stupid enough to max him out then to each his own.

And I'll say that you know what the Scout meant too... all he said was that Seattle was going to resign Lewis, not necessarily KEEP Lewis.

Phoenix is in a bind if they're looking to drop salary. There's no way you can trade a talent like Amare. On the other hand Marion is a big key to their success and I think they'd experience a let down if they traded him. Diaw is obviously the one you want to trade but it may be hard to find takers, even for a pure salary dump.

That's just a shock statement because he knows they'll be looking to make a trade(s) possibly Marion and Kurt(if he picks his option up), which I sure he will. Wow won't he be a valuable asset to trade, he's an expiring asset.

I find it comical how much people underrate Diaw. The dude almost made Amare look expendable last yr. You must trade Marion because his value will never be as high as it is and he's the most tradeable asset outside of Steve and Amare

Pheonix needs more defense.

I'd deal Diaw and Marcus Banks for Battier straight up. Diaw and Mcgrady would compliment eachother really well, more offense, not a huge dropoff in defense, younger, more talent, they get their 3rd scorer. Plus he's a better PF option than Battier, who is really more of a 3.

No one wants Rashard Lewis. He sucks. So overrated. Allan houston was 3 times the player he was, and Houston was overrated too.
DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

Diaw has a great season last year but took two steps back this year. Compare that to the raw talent of Amare and the all around, year after year contributions of Marion and of the 3, it's a no brainer who you'd want to trade. Honestly I think Marion is the underrated one. At the top of his game Diaw is a better offensive player but is lightyears behind Marion in terms of defense and rebounding.

He was forced into a limited role. You saw some of the same at times when Joe was there besides Phx plays no defense anyway. Marion will not be any better than he is today. You trade Marion for youth with upside and cap relief. Like say Marion/Jones 4 Mike Miller/Hakim Warrick or if the Bulls would do it Luol Deng & filler.

Marion is a tough trade because of Salary. But its clear they need to take a dump and he is expendable.

Problem is taking salary back for the Suns.

The last few years Phoenix has been pretty much exactly in the middle of the pack defensively. That means that they're not great at it but they're not bad either. If they slide into the lower echelon of the league defensively they pretty much have no shot at the title. So they can't afford to get much worse defensively, which they likely would if they traded Marion. When you're a top notch championship contender you don't go trading key cogs for youth.

I would give anyone on this team for Marion.

There is no way they give up Amare (although I would put together a hell of a package built around Crawford and Curry and Frye for Amare and at least one of their(if not both) picks.
