Yes, you need young versatile, two-way players to successfully rebuild in this league. We have zero.
And I hope no one writes, "well it depends on how player x, y, or z develops." That's a cop out. GMs don't get that privilege. Whenever making a decision, you have to factor in the possible outcomes and each outcomes probability. Just because we don't know how Eddy or Ty will be next year, doesn't mean we can't use the player's skill set and history to make projections.

That's a good question. I yet not to think about it.

So post the facts. Who was available besides channing when he was drafted? Who was available besides Nate?

If there was no curry trade, would Brandon Roy be the logical pick with lee probably ahead of the curve with no channing?

Also let's say the knicks had granger, lee and jack already. Who would the knicks have picked? Balkman and Collins would have still been good picks but those spots were already filled with some promising rookies the year before. Maybe Boone would make more sense than another guard. Big al from Florida probably would have been the knicks pick for this season.

The knicks would be up and coming, but still floating where they are right now or lower.

I guess I wouldn't want that team either because it appears that the Knicks are still a lottery team if they are getting the 9th pick.

Having a set of young promising talent is cool but how these talents will be used and how they develop depends on the organization strategy and execution.
The same set of player can produce non in NY but be very good in Phonics or Dallas.
Hard work cannot be replaced with miracles because there are no miracles without hard work.
