"When you win 28 games, I think it's important to think about doing anything if you can help yourself. . . . I do not (avoid) phone calls from other teams' general managers." - Jerry West

I wonder what Layden is thinking after coming off 2 losing seasons?
Jerry is gonna pull the trigger on anything that can make them a better basketball club. Layden is quoted as saying that Dyess is still the focal point of next years team.

You gotta wonder what is on Laydens mind.

Certainly not a committment to winning.

As a fan who expected this season to be more dismal than last, the fact that the team made the playoffs seem possible was a pleasant surprise, though nothing to get too excited about. I wasn't expecting anything at all from this team this year.

For the management to feel that same way is pathetic. If they are not trying to build a champion, then they are content with losing. Their expectations should be far above the fans', and it is apparent we have higher goals for the team next season than they do.

If they continue to build around the idea that Dice will be back, they will continue to suck. They need to assume Dice will never play again, build up the team, and if he comes back and plays in 03-04, hey, that's great!

I thought he was through before this surgery. Now, I'm convinced. It's over for Dice. Let him have a miracle comeback on some other team's dime in 04-05.

I agree with you they have to approach everything this off season as thought Dice won't comeback. That is why I say they go after Brand. We know the team has no plan on bring in draft picks because they want instant gratification. Well Brand is their man anything else is a waste. They have to make some deals do a sign and trade with Clips. Give them whatever they want it makes no difference anyways. Give them all the picks for the next three years cause thats the way the Knicks work any ways. Try to get a deal going for Spree and KT bring in Thomas and Cassell from the Bucks to give them height and a pg bring back Camby by trading a future pick away.

All problems solved.
Tim Thomas sf
Brand pf
Camby center
Houston sg
Cassell pg

There you have it a team made for a run next year. But we know the NBA is a socialist structured league where a team is peanalized for trying to win a championship that is why its the easiest sport to repeat as a championships.

People can say brand until they are blue in the face--we dont have the caproom or the assets to acquire him. We would probably be way down on the list. Im the one who started the thought process of a Tim Thomas Cassell trade but it's impossible to do now. we cant just get rid of Thomas at this point. Im not against a Sprewell for Thomas if they throw in their number 8 draft pick because we would be taking on an extra 2 years and 20MM+ in salary. That would give me pick 8-9 Then I would concentrate my efforts on drafting Kaman and Sweetney. This Mcdyess trade has set back the franchise 2-4 years.

You can say Sweetney until you are Blue in the face you know the KNicks are going to trade the pick. Exploring without trying is the worst any GM can do. Make an offer to the Clips and let them tell you no deal. Until they do that Brand can be had.
