Yeah, nobody in their right mind would ever move the team out of NY, then again, who knows if Dolan and Layden are sane. Regardless, if the team sucked and nobody went or watched, then Dolan would sell. Van Gundy said it the other day announcing the Kings game when they showed the Kings owners (the Maloof brothers), he said something to the extent that the owners make the organization, because they set the tone for what is to be expected, etc. Maybe that's why he bolted NY, he couldn't stand Dolan anymore, I sure as hell can't. Fact of the matter is the Knicks need a new owner, once they get a new one they'll be able to contend again. (either that or get LeBron.)
I couldn't agree more. They do need a new owner, but it won't happen like this.
You can talk all you want about Atlanta, but the fact of the matter is that's a terrible sports town. The owners understand that there isn't a worthwhile profit to be made there, and are calling it quits. Markets like Charlotte and NY are known for their basketball lure, and owners know this. They won't just sell when there is a profit to be made. Charlotte fans stopped going, and rather than sell and watch someone else rake in the dough, the Hornets owners decided to make money elsewhere.
I'm not saying the Knicks will pack up and leave, cause that'll never happen.

I'm just saying "sit-outs" in big name markets don't work. All they have to say is "Don't like it? Say hello to an expansion team." and we go right back in.
What I think would be great is moving the New Jersey Nets back to New York. The Nets get better attendance rates than Miami, the fans gets a winning basketball team, and the city gets a great, new rivalry that splits loyalists and wagon-hoppers. Great, great stuff.
