Hard cap. A player who hasn't been performing can be cut. No salary cap hit. A team isn't paying for a mistake it made 3 years ago.

Players Union would never go for it and the players would strike if the owners and the Commish tried to impose this.

That's what needs to happen, but also what won't happen due to the reasons TB listed.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

The problem is that you cannot have a hard cap unless salaries are not guaranteed. No way the players union goes for that, and even the owners are not going to push for total nonguaranteed salaries unless the NBA hits hard times financially. I don't see anything wrong with the current system. The NHL went to a hardcap because they were losing money, which is part of the reason the NFL went to one. The NBA financially has no need for a hard cap. The changes to the luxury tax were intended to help create a psuedo-hardcap without actually imposing one.
Trust the Process

Most teams are actually making moves based on the salary cap. there only seem to be 1 or 2 teams that operate without any regard for it. Make that one team.
