Celtics Trade
#5 overall pick
Theo Ratliff (expire)

Sonics Trade
Rashard Lewis

Why The Sonics Do It

For about a year or so now we've heard about how the Sonics could be looking to part ways with Rashard Lewis and now he has a player option coming up where they could lose him for nothing anyways.

More importantly, they just got the #2 pick (aka the "Durant Pick") and by taking Durant not only would it make Lewis expendable, but it also makes him a tradeable talent to have on the team (they're both virtually the same player).

So in this deal not only do they get out from under Lewis' contract and get an expiring deal in return, they get the #5 pick to take one of the many PF's in the draft to put next to Durant for the future.

The Celtics lost out on Oden and Durant sweepstakes and the franchise is desperate to win now with Pierce aging. Even though this draft is pretty deep they're not going to find a player like Rashard Lewis in it, especially at #5 overall. Plus he's already a proven player in the NBA in the prime of his career at 27 years old.

This gives Pierce the player he's been waiting for to win now and as a bonus it also gives the Celtics the perfect player for Gerald Green to model his game after: when Lewis' contract runs out in two years Gerald takes over his role on the team.

Bottom line for the Celtics is that Pierce + Rashard Lewis + Al Jefferson = contenders in the East.

Thoughts ??

thoughts?

stay in GM school.
DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

I wouldn't give up a top 5 pick in any draft for Rashard Lewis, let alone a draft that's as strong as this one is reported to be.

Celtics want to win now and do it around Paul Pierce?

That itself is laughable. Pierce is a first team all bonehead team!

Seattle needs to trade Lewis because neither he nor Durant can guard NBA SGs and I don't think Durant is a PF. They are about to lose Lewis for nothing. If I were them, I would draft Durant and then trade Lewis for a rebounding defensive PF. I don't want to do this trade, but I am confident that Lee and Nate with Rose, would land us Lewis. Seattle needs a crowd draw like Nate and Lee would give them a young rebounding PF who knows how to play. They will probably need to trade Allen too because the team will likely take a year or two to gel, but they could restock their SG position with a trade of Allen to a team looking to win now.

I wouldn't be shocked to see the Sonics make some sort of move. Durant has to be a starter, wherever he goes. Seattle will have to make the logical moves to ensure that. Wouldn't be shocked to see them S+T Lewis.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

The key is what is the Sonics doing with their possible relocation?

Do they have a building in Seattle or are they posturing to move?

With them its about marketing and finance.

Rashard opts out then Sonics have cap room.

He could sign with Nets?

Sonics can sign and trade him for parts and they can rebuild with youth but keep Allen for the time being.

Sonics are trying to save money because of the possibility of moving soon, so an expiring contract of a ratliff I thought was a good idea.
