The Knicks will be at the center of the rumor maelstrom at the predraft camp in Orlando later this month. I continue to hear that they're committed to making a serious run at trading for Kevin Garnett, Jermaine O'Neal or Pau Gasol. But the organization sees it as more due diligence than reality. In the end, they probably won't have enough to land any of the above ... In the likely event that the Knicks won't be able to trade Steve Francis, they are dead set against buying out his contract. Isiah Thomas' philosophy has been consistent on buyouts: If a player can give him anything, he keeps him. And the Knicks believe Francis still has something left.

he's basing this assumption on guys like Mo Taylor and Jalen Rose. Francis' contract is much bigger, the Franbury experiment simply didn't work, keeping him will demand playing time and therefore stunt the growth of our younger guards, and really you could argue that Isiah wouldn't have bought out Taylor and Rose's expiring contracts if Dolan didn't cut him off.

unless he's traded I really don't see a reason to not buy out steve-o.

My main issues with Francis are his lack of ability to catch and shoot when he's WIDE OPEN. His horrible penchant for blowing up plays and then over dribbling and forcing his own offense, only to turn the ball over or throw up a bad shot. When he's actually scoring he at least provides some points, but mostly he disrupts what we are trying to do. I can't for the life of me understand why Isiah would think Francis actually can help. I think Mardy already is better for this team then Francis and he's not even a polished pro yet. I prefer NATE to francis evenwith all of his flaws. He can at least catch and shoot for a high % and he is much better at creating good shots for himself, without turning it over.

I don't know what our chances are for making a deal for KG, JO or Pau, but I would think that we should be able to get one of those guys if we really want them. Francis would be at the top of my list of guys to trade if a team would take him.

Because we keep forking over the money, even though we know it's a bad product.
I'll never trust this' team again.

And how does that guy know the Knicks are against it?

That's just not correct. If Isiah truly believed that, why was Jalen Rose waived? He would've helped a lot last season.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

disagree. Isiah just brought in JJSkinny and drafted Balkmania and had Q starting. Where did Jalen fit in?

according to the article fit is irrelevant. francis don't fit either, but that doesn't change whether or not he has *something* left.

did you see Jalen at the end of the last year and beginning of this? He was dead and done AND did not have anything left cause others would have taken his place.

Don't take it too literal, I mean Jalen did find room on the PHO bench, so he must have had something left, but it aint much, and with the young team the Knicks had and the playing time they were dolling out and the record they were going to meet, Jalen didn't fit and wouldn't have given anything.

Same deal with Francis. He just goes resents every place this team needs to go. Buyout, trade, I don't care, he needs to go and is useless for the team.

an option is: The injured list for the year for Steve.

We pay him his money to stay home. He doesn't play for someone else. He rests up for the final year of his deal, maybe some team will trade for him at the deadline if they get desperate.

all we lose is a roster spot.

should we pay 40 mil to purchase a roster spot?
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

Isn't that better than paying him $40 mil anyway and NOT getting a roster spot?

Francis showed flashes of being an effective player on the court.

Iverson got traded & was somewhat effective in Denver- he isn't on the same level, but he could help a team.

Who? No idea.

I'd keep him in case.

Honestly- we should try to trade Marbury- then go with Francis & get his value up so we can trade him.
