More People Are Watching Wrestling Than the NBA Playoffs
Posted May 19th 2007 5:00PM

The NBA Playoffs, in the Western Conference at least, have been pretty good so far. Golden State had a nice little run, Utah has been a great story, and we all know about the Phoenix/San Antonio series and all of the drama that went with it. Apparently, this wasn't enough for most TV viewers. It would appear that something much more compelling was taking place in professional wrestling.

"But the worst thing is, both hours of WWE Raw were watched by more people than any of the NBA games. One of the other Jazz-Warrior games finished behind an episode of "SpongeBob SquarePants" in eighth place, tying with "Finding Nemo" and "Fairly Odd Parents."

Doesn't it seem as if the NBA playoffs, with all the media hype, ought to be able to beat out pro wrestling, which doesn't benefit from publicity in any sports page in the country?

The Portland Tribune columnist poses a great question, one I'm not entirely sure how to answer. All I know is that as a fan of the League, I'm a little concerned that a dramatic series such as the Jazz/Warriors tilt was overshadowed by an episode of "SpongeBob SquarePants". I can't even imagine what people will tune into watch just so they can avoid the Spurs/Jazz series.

no knicks, no lakers, and a watered down league.
DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

You can go a step forward even.
As crazy as it is to be watching Wrestling during the NBA playoffs, how about watching sports during this NEO-CON attack against the world...

Keep on taking professional wrestling for a joke.

LOL, Raw used to beat out Monday Night Football on a regular basis. One reason why ABC saw it fit to just move it to ESPN.

Beat me to it. Wrestling has a huge following and is one of the highest rated programs on cable TV.

People only watch unless their team is competing,I think this goes for any sporting event. You watch until your team is out of it, then you tune out or occasionally check on the score of the other games. Then you come back during the finals and watch the finals as thats on ABC. Another reason is the really good games between Sun/Spurs are on too late to watch. Also Wrestling has always had a huge following. I'm pretty sure if this was MLB playoffs it would be the same thing.

Wrestling is underrated. There's nothing funnier after a hard day's work than to watch a couple of steroid monkeys beat each other's brains out with aerosol cans and a flare-nut wrench. 95% of it really is comedy. And those divas don't hurt either.

Bring back Kiebler.

This shouldn't be a shock. Wrestling has consistently beat the NBA playoffs.

When the Knicks-Spurs finals was happening in '99, one of the Monday Night Raws had something like 8 million viewers, while the nba finals game, on at the same time, had something like 1.6 million.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

This country did re-elect President Bush. I am not really shocked by too much anymore.

If Isiah will work with Knicks another full 4 years we can beat Wrestling easy.
We already 70% comedy and can be close to 98% soon

Good point, arkrud. The Knicks are the funniest show on television.

Yeah I mean you got Israel vs. Hamas again, the US dropping bombs, basically everyday the corrupt core of our gov't is exposed on a deeper level, and no one seems to care about that too much. How is this guys till in office. Isn't there a genocide going on in Darfur?

There are tons more important things than the NBA or wrestling.

I beg to differ. I thought the Knicks are more like a soap opera. Sad.
