IMO, if we're going to trade our youth to go for it, you have to go all the way & try to build a legitimate championship contender... u can't go at it half assed like they've been doing the past few years & make moves that contradict one another.

make a decision on what direction you want this team to go in! if you want to bring guys like Artest or JO in here, you have to make sure you GO FOR BROKE!

* Trade #1 - D Lee, Francis, CHI's pick, Malik & Nate for O'Neal & Tinsley
* Trade #2 - Jefferies & Frye for Artest
* sign Jamaal Magloire to a 3 YR (NO MORE) MLE contract to shore up the frontcourt even more
- sign a shooter like Eddie House to the LLE

with this team you play a rough, tough, banging style offense to take advantage of the very deep frontcourt, & physical, no nonsense defense, w/enough perimeter scorers to keep other teams from clogging up the paint on every possession:

C - Curry / Magloire / Turd
PF - O'Neal / Morris
SF - Artest / Balkman
SG - Q Rich / Crawford / House
PG - Marbury / Mardy
IR - Tinsley

Yeah, I know... Starphuch of all starphuchs... but if you're going to do it, go for broke & put together a team that can actually WIN, not just eek out an 8th seed in the playoffs & call that a successful season... I think that team would have a very real legitimate shot at dethroning the Pistons in the East next year. They also have the size & depth to defeat the Spurs & Suns out of the West... there's also enough combustible material on that team to blow this city to Kingdom come, but i'm willing to risk it, cuz there's no other realistic way i can fathom Isiah putting a genuine championship contender together.

Thoughts?

well the one things for sure everyone of those players have tremendous respect for IT ( with the exception of Magoloire). To a certian degree that roster does look like a extreme high risk, the personalities would clash like the titans .( but not like the movie) It looks like a chemist worse nightmare.

POSITIVES- veterens, skills, hunger, tougness.
NEGATIVES- Chemistry, leadership, attitude , disipline.

I think that we are better off staying the course and building from within. IF a player becomes available for a good price--depending on the player--then we should be opportunistic. The one thing I *hope* the management can *see8 is the combination of Frye Jefferies in terms of their abilities to contribute seriously to a big time team. I do NOT want a player with the same frame i.e 6-10 and skinny as a rail unless his name ends with Durant.

i don't see attitude being an issue... IMO, that team would be the closest to the old school Knicks in terms of wanting to bully other teams that we've had in years... they'd no doubt have the players to play a tough brand of basketball, & other teams wouldn't be running up no scores on us in the Garden, i can tell you that much right now... & w/Nate gone & having had JO & Artest already gone through that brawl experience & being suspended, i don't see it as much of a risk that they'd have another repeat of the Brawl at the Palace... w/Nate though, i think he still hasn't learned a thing from that whole experience personally... i'm actually more positive that Nate will be involved in an on the court incident than either Artest of JO at this point... he's got a lot of talent but none of the brains to be a great player... Artest, as much of a headcase that he is, is already a great player, there's no doubting that... & like other posters have brought up in other threads, his contract isn't so restrictive to this team that would make other moves down the line impossible if he doesn't work out here... the worst part of my plan is taking on Tinsley's contract, but if I'm getting rid of Jefferies' contract in the process, it's an even trade off... at least Tinsley can give you something on offense.

I agree with BRIGGS. Stay the course. I would actually be OK if we traded Curry instead of Frye. A Frye, DLee, Balkman with Marbury and Collins lineup is good for me. Collins and Balkman will solidify the perimeter defense and DLee and Balkman would clean up the glass. Frye atleast tries to rebound and I like his offense. He is perfect for Marbury. Pick-and-pop or Pick-and-roll.

but what does adding a MLE FA do to the championship aspirations for this team? it's just another in a long line of half assed type moves that doesn't really change a thing. if we're going to stay the course & build up with youth, then get rid of guys like Francis & Marbury... they're not a positive influence on young players IMO... this is what i DON'T want... straddling the fence year after year & not having any definitive plan of action.

about not wanting tall, skinny rail thin guys on your team, what would you have felt about adding a guy like Tayshaun Prince to this roster? i think it's more of a certain mindset more than it's about a certain body type myself... look at Balkman... the kid is skinny as a chopstick, but he's got heart... i'd be fine w/having an entire team full of guys who play as hard as he does.

O'Neal, Artest & Tinsley? That isn't enough to put us over the top?

O'Neal doesn't make it through the season. And you're giving up Lee for him? Lee does everything O'Neal does except score 20- and he isn't going to score 20 with Curry in the middle.

Now- Artest & KG- those are two players that can put you over the top in terms of a championship- depends on what it costs.

we just went through a season w/that same lineup & the team stunk... why would you want to see another season of the same? if we're going to stink, at least let it be because we're going full on with a youth movement... having Marbury here w/the rest of those guys is pointless... if you want to commit to youth, then start Mardy & get Marbury on the next train to Minnesota.

Artest, O'Neal, Tinsley, Magloire & House are a pretty damn large improvement over Frye, Lee, Malik, Jefferies, Nate & whoever we get w/CHI's pick.

Lee does everything O'Neal does except score... & block shots... & play defense... come on, let's be objective here... Lee's my favorite Knick but you can't possibly tell me he's on JO's level.

Did House do anything this year? Did Tinsley play?

Lee isn't on the same level- but, despite his pseudo-fracture this year- I'm willing to bet money he plays more games than O'Neal.

that's funny, because Jefferies didn't do anything this year either, & he was on the floor.

you can easily take those minor players out of the equation & you'd still be gaining a large improvement in overall talent over the players you're losing in this plan... the problem is only the potential for a huge blowup in the making, but talent wise i don't know how anyone can think they're getting the short end of the stick here.
