Boy Stern is such a bastard, he sounds annoyed, frustrated and he is being a smart ass and dan patrick is trying to be as respectful as possible but he is losing his cool it seems.

some excerpts:

DP: Do you think there should be some interpretation to the rule when something like this happens, especially considering the players the suns lost and the one the spurs lost..

Stern: Yea I guess we need to put that in the memo, that if it is a star player as opposed to a scrub then we need to adjust the rules.

Then stern goes on to tell patrick he is only going to wrestle with him on this because he is an opinion maker. He then goes on to say " I guess we need to ignore the rule so we that we can let the best players play regardless if they break the rule or not, so we can get the most fans to watch and fill our pockets with money"....

LOL.. what a got damn hypocrite!!!!!

Patrick and Stern have a history of heat. Remember how bad DP was bagging on him at the draft last year?

If Michael Jordan had done something similar, Stern would have interpreted the "vicinity of the bench" as the entire damn arena.

Stern is a sanctimonious hypocrite.

The only reason he appeared on his show because he knows how fans are viewing his Moronic Azz. This is complete damage control.

Do us all a favor just be a real man who's a hack and make like Joey Crawford and get out of this league.

Oh My as tkf pointed out Stern said he is going to wrestle with him but then told Dan Patrick "he better stop", "don't go there", and "don't you forget that(rule)".

He brought his Juice Card out

You guys are funny. David Stern is the only reason ll you guys are watching basketball at all! Without Stern its highly doubtful that there would be any NBA at all.

The guy can't win. Take the Knicks. First he rigged the lottery to get us Pat, then he suspended half the team because he doesn't want us to succeed. Which is it?

Rules are rules. Without the rules, there is no sport. If you don't stay within the rules, you don't play the game.

Is Stern a dictator? Yes. He deserves to be a dictator. Its his league, he got it going, he kept it afloat when things were rough, and he's turned it from a drug-ridden sideshow to one of the most successful sports leagues in the world.

So get a grip. When things go wrong, Stern sorts it out. When Joey Crawford went nuts, he suspended him. When the Knicks were robbed this season on a last-second missed call(goal-tending) he sent the assistant commish to MSG to apologize. He runs the league and he does it well. So he doesn't like Dan Patrick, big deal. So he lost his cool, so what. Get over it and appreciate the man for what he's done for the sport. Everything.

Firefly, if not for the fact that the league is rigged, I would agree with you.

At times, the NBA seems just as fixed as the WWE.

At times, the NBA seems just as fixed as the WWE.

Two points.

1. The league is not rigged. The refs are completely separate to the side of the NBA that runs the league. They are consistently overseen to maintain neutrality. Are the refs completely neutral? unfortunately not. They are human beings, they have memories and emotions and therefor must have personal bias. Thats not good, and you can see it during games, but it has nothing to do with Stern.

2. Sterns outlook is league-wide, world-wide. His job is to make sure that he can go back to ALL the owners at the end of every season and show them how he's made them money. Him suspending players is a straightforward reading of the rules. Its not a personal decision. You think he dislikes Rasheed Wallace more than any other player because he gets more techs and fines then anyone else? I met the guy after the Knicks-Nuggets brawl and said it must be nice to fine someone else in the league other then Rasheed, and he just shrugged and said it makes no difference to him. He said if Sheed wants to give him more money its always a pleasure. And that's all it is to him.

That's my point tkf. Maintaining refree consistancy is not Sterns job. He can only act when a ref does something as blatant and outrageous as what Crawford did. Other then that, the refs are completely self-governed.

Stern has the power when it comes to suspensions but the rules are clear. It doesn't mattr what the fans want, if the players don't follow the rules of the game and the punishment is a suspension, then blame the players, not Stern. His job is to make sure that anarchy doesn't rule on the court. So he makes rules. If you cant stick to the rules, don't play. Blame Amare, not Stern.

not true. Jordan, bird and magic saved the game and are the reason why a lot of kids and men our age are still fans. This league has survived in the 80's and 90's because of great players and great rivalries. bulls/pistons, Piston/ celtics, Celtics/ Lakers, Knicks/ Heat, Knicks/ bulls. But after that wave of great players were gone, bird, ewing, hakeem, MJ, magic, stern had no clue what to do, so he sold his soul to gloablizing the game instead of selling the NBA he tried to sell basketball. Instead of selling teams he still tried to sell Individual stars. If it weren't for the genius of some GM's like Dumars, paxon, colangelo, who understood that those great players of the past that carried the league back then are once in a lifetime players and not every team can have a star, lets build a system, one that can survive losing good, even great players, one that is fun to watch and one that is based on TEAM play... What came forth from that are the pistons, suns, and now the bulls, add the utah jazz into that, hell even the warriors were fun to watch.. the key is teams like this, like the suns, can lose good players like Joe johnson, marbury, Q rich, and not miss a beat, they can lose amare for a whole season and still run their system. The warriors have a style where they can plug in retreads like matt barnes and still function and be fun to watch. Stern had nothing to do with this.... Stern was too busy guiding wade and the heat to the finals..... his new poster boy!

NBA to open London office
May 16, 2007

NEW YORK (AP) -- The NBA plans to open an office in London this summer in an effort to expand its fan base in Europe.

Officials will work with the British Olympic Association and focus on basketball development leading up to the 2012 Olympics, NBA commissioner David Stern announced Wednesday.

Stern met with London Mayor Ken Livingstone at NBA headquarters in New York City. London will host a preseason exhibition game between the Boston Celtics and Minnesota Timberwolves on Oct. 10.

"The opening of an NBA office in London and the upcoming exhibition game will help establish a more permanent and prominent NBA presence in the region," Stern said.

The refs are not self governed, they are and should be held accountable for how games are called.

All we are asking for is some intepretation of the rules and applying the rules with some common sense. Classic example. Down here in GA there was a 18 year old black football star, who had scholarships from major universities. he had sex with a girl, a white girl who was 15 and a girl he used to see a lot, she was a sophmore and he was a senior. the girls parents found out, made a big stink and this kid was arrested for having consentual sex with a minor. Now this kid is serving 10 years!!! he lost his scholarships, and the District Attorney didn't have to put this kid in jail, he is receiving a lot of heat and there is a white lawyer who has taken on this case for free I think and has been doing so for the past two years, trying to appeal and get this stupid ruling overturned. By law yes, the DA could and did prosecute this kid, but did he have to considering the circumstances? The kids were seeing each other, it was consentual and the kid was 18 and she was 15 soon to turn 16. Is that justice? We know it is the law? but is it justice, all we are asking is an interpretation of the law for certain cases like this....

LOL.. what a got damn hypocrite!!!!!

I don't get it? How is there a problem with what Stern is saying here?

Patrick thinks we need to take the types of players involved into consideration when making a ruling? That is absurd. That's catering to the stars.

"If you are an 8th man or below and walk off the bench, suspension. If you are in the top 7, fine and slap on the wrist."

Stern makes complete sense. How is he a hypocrite in this situation?

If the rule needs to be reworked, fine. I think it should be. And if Stern doesn't think it should be revisited, well I think he's wrong. But for him to be against the notion of somehow catering to stars in the interpretation of this rule... he's right on the money.
Stern and Dan patrick are on the radio getting it on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
