With Michael Vick in the news for what might be dogfighting and Artest having just beat his animal cruelty case, it's high time we acknowledge the originator. That's right, I'm talking about Qyntel Woods, who while with the Blazers was busted for all sorts of shady things involving pit bulls. Woods appears to be out of the league, but his legend lives on.

To make sure we never forget Woods, John Canzano decided to follow up on the story. He did so by checking in on Stella, the dog at the heart of Woods' sins. From Canzano's second update on the dog:

In the event you want more on Stella, she has a profile on dogster. Also, you should know she finished second recently in a pit bull photo contest. Turns out Woods had a supermodel, not a fighter, on his hands.

[...]

There's a lot of theories about what Woods was doing with Stella before he dumped her in a Northeast Portland alley, bleeding and scraped up. He could have been fighting her. He could have been using her to train other dogs. One dog person tells me he could have been preparing to breed her, and wanted to see how much fight she had in her before doing so.

I know, I know, animals are people too and this is no laughing matter. And trust me, I'm not laughing about it. I just think it's funny that Woods got run out of the league, and is remembered primarily for this fiasco. Whereas with Vick and Artest, expect this to blow over by next season. Lesson for Qyntel Woods: maybe if you'd been a little more of a player, you could have gotten away with (dog) murder.

I know, I know, animals are people too and this is no laughing matter.

I don't know why people consistently say this. Animals are animals and should be given the chance to BE animals, and not to be humanized. At the same time, people ARE animals. Funny, huh.

With that said, I find that people who set up dogfights are the scums of the world.

Q got his second chance in NY.

Vic got a mega contract and is a player.
Artest is talented nutjob.
Q is an unproven flake player with a checkered past.

We don't know why he fell out of favor this season do we?

Animals are not people too, but to take a domesticated animal and treat it with cruelty is really not very cool.
