Little surprise here.

http://msn.foxsports.com/cbk/story/6743082

Troubled BC big man headed to NBA
Jeff Goodman / FOXSports.com

Sean Williams, the athletic 6-foot-10 Boston College big man who was kicked off the team in mid-January, told FOXSports.com that he has officially declared for the NBA.

"I did it yesterday," Williams said.

Williams also said he has hired Charles Grantham as his agent.

Williams, a Texas native, was suspended from the team twice before being kicked out of the program permanently on Jan. 17. He was suspended for the first semester of his sophomore campaign after being arrested for marijuana possession. He spent 90 days in a drug rehabilitation in Houston.

According to sources, Williams' permanent departure came after he flunked multiple drug tests.

Despite his background, two NBA executives said that Williams could still make his way into the first round of the June 28 NBA Draft.

Williams is one of the most athletic big men in the country and was arguably the most dominant shot-blocker in the country. His offensive game also showed some promise prior to being dismissed from the team.

He averaged 12.1 points, 6.9 boards and 5.0 blocks per game in 15 games. He scored 19 points, had 15 rebounds and blocked seven shots in a loss to Kansas less than a month before being kicked off the team.

------------------------------------------------------

I still maintain that, character issues aside, Williams would certainly help the Knicks out by controlling the paint defensively. I've never seen someone block shots like this guy has, and thats going back to the Zo or Hakeem the Dream days. Dude just gets it done. Outside shooting probably is a bigger concern right now, but I'd say interior D is right up there. 5 blocks a game in the ACC is nothing to scoff at, and 7 against Kansas was probably his coming out party.

Would Houston be interested in Nate and Frye for their first rounder and a filler (Kirk Snyder or something along those lines)? They need help in the backcourt and a big man who can shoot who'd let them take advantage of Yao's passing ability (Juwan Howard is getting old). Plus JVG never plays rooks anyway so he'd probably be inclined to shop the pick.

Scooping up Almond (I am sold on this guy for the first rounder, 45% from 3 range in college and a bevy of 40 point games) and Williams with the two first rounders would go a LONG way in the development of this team. Without adding anything long term the Knicks would go to battle with Marbury, Collins, and Crawford handling G duties, Almond and Q shooting the rock, Balkman and Lee providing the hustle, Malik giving the vet leadership, Big Time (Williams' nickname) blocking shots, Curry's low post scoring, Jerome James housing the post-game buffet, and the cowardly Jeffries as 12th man. That is, count it, 6 players under 25 (Collins, Balkmania, Almond, Lee, Williams, Curry) w/ Crawford right around there. Young squad.

If he's there with a second late pick, I'm taking him, but I've also heard he has work ethic/attitude problems. Not sure if it's worth the risk taking him at 23, unless we get another pick that's even earlier. If we do that and draft Williams and Almond, we just had ourselves our best draft in a good long time.

A former colleague of mine was at a party back in the day with Phil Jackson who was lighting up.

So, if its good enough for the Zen Master- and I think he has more rings than fingers- its good enough for me.

Come on, haven't you tried any. The problem is with the laws, not the drugs

Agreed- if we have one pick, we need outside shooting a lot more than interior defense.

Balkman can block shots for us, but we need someone to hit outside shots who isn't a circus clown (Nate) or a medical exemption waiting to happen (Q).

Regarding my drug comment, if all he did was Cannibus then I'm not worried. If it was coke or the like then I'd worry.

That aside, the guy is a talent and would be perfect. But we also need a shooter. I really don't see a team selecting him unless they can risk the pick. (ie. Phoenix has many)
But who would risk a first round pick in a draft this deep (outside of our coach... which he really might do).

can we swing a deal to get a pick by including channing and nate together? I think the bobcats would have some interest there, as would minny?

It would give us a chance at brewer, conley, noah etc....

You don't want to take the chance of drafting someone who has a chance to be arrested at any time for drug abuse.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Detroit has done pretty well with Raweed Wallace.

I was being a little facetious, but you're right. Moreso, the issue would be bringing any negative influences to New York without cleaning house first. Let's think about it:

Negative influences/attitudes on the team, IMHO: Stephon Marbury, Steve Francis, Eddy Curry, Jerome James (epitome of collecting the $$$), Nate Robinson. Clean out some of those guys, replace them with hard working guys who give guts and then maybe there's a chance of a positive environment faciliating turning a bad attitude around and getting them to play in a team system. But you can't risk adding another potentially bad attitude to a team that should be called the New York Cancers.

Exactly. It's about time we start winning around here and I don't care what the hell it takes. Go get this kid. I want Almond more, but figuring out a way to get both would be nice. All in favor of trying to trade for an additional 1st rounder to get him and I'd dangle Frye and Nate out there to do it. Absolutely.

Character issues huh? Say no to a druggie? The guy's got a bad work ethic? Look, did you all root for Sprewell when we got him, who played like an all-star and eventually took us to the finals? I did. I LOVED that trade - one of the best trades the Knicks ever made and Starks was probably my favorite player. And Spree went after PJ with a 2/4 for Pet's sake! Talk about character issues.... And did you all like the Qyntel Woods pick up last year? I loved it! I was like, damn, we just picked up lottery-level talent right here for nothing! And Q2 didn't even play that badly too. He showed promise and most of us around here screamed about him getting more PT last year. I for one wanted him back and wanted to see the Knicks develop him. Maybe with a semi-developed Qyntel Woods we're not talking Morris Almond right now, who knows... Did the Celtic fans turn on the Chief when the dogs found the weed in his suitcase? Parish is still beloved by so many up there man. That whole thing was just one big afterthought in Beantown... Williams made a mistake and he paid for it. That's it. Case closed. New book now, new chapter, page 1. And Allanfan, I gotta tell ya bro, I don't really know how bad a guy's work ethic can be if he's leading the NATION in blocks - probably the biggest hustle stat out there. You need skill, timing and athletism to block shots, sure, but you also gotta WANT TO DO IT. You gotta want to intimidate and play defense, bottom line. Ask our two big bananas (Curry and Frye) if they wanna play any defense. Plus, as Jeff Goodman points out, the rest of Williams' game was showing significant progress (I couldn't resist) before the dismissal. With a little work with Aguirre in the gym, who knows. We might be looking at a much more than just a one-dimensional shot-blocker here.

Two things are working in our favor. One, his obviously stock did take a hit with the the whole marijuana thing and that certainly puts him in our range, when maybe before he would've went mid to high 1st round or possibly in the lottery. And two, for whatever reason, Justin Williams from Wyoming, a very similar albeit slightly more post defender, went undrafted last year, which tells me that there might not be a lot of interest out there in a player like this right now. That's good. Good for us. Securing Morris Almond to shoot/score the ball for us and Williams to block shots would be one of the best drafts we've had in a long time - I agree with you there Allanfan. I say yes, go get this kid.

I'd take Sean Williams in a heartbeat. We also need a shooter though, as has been well documented.

Maybe we can trade Frye or Nate for a mid first round pick to grab Almond or Rush or one of the other SGs with a shot.

Williams and Almond would be a very solid draft.
