Thabeet Announces He Will Return To UConn
26th April, 2007 - 2:21 pm
USA Today -

Center Hasheem Thabeet will return to UConn for his sophomore season instead of declaring for the NBA draft.

The 7-foot-3 native of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, talked with coach Jim Calhoun before making his decision.

"I am very excited about next season and returning to UConn for my sophomore year," Thabeet said in a release. "I look forward to continuing my education as a person and as an athlete. We have all been working very hard since the season ended and will continue doing everything we can to get better each day and have a great season next year." [READ]

It's a solid decision. I think by next year he will be prepared to be a player who will be able to dominate games at times with increased strength and skill training. With Hibbert and Gray gonzo, Thabeet will give Uconn a hUGE advatage in the middle--now the other guys need to step up.

Relieved that Thabeet's decision has been made, Calhoun and his staff will get down to the business of making him a force at both ends of the floor.
"Hasheem is already strong," Calhoun said. "He weighs about 268 and that is pretty good size. Everything is muscle, it's a matter of him learning how to use it. Last year, Hasheem got taken by a lot of centers. I told him, it's payback time."
