EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J.–As the New Jersey Nets practiced here this morning, their leader was across the river in a New York doctor's office.
Jason Kidd, the future Hall of Famer who drives the Nets, was having a sore left knee examined by team physicians and did not practice.
He was at the Nets facility for a tape session before being sent to the doctor, New Jersey coach Lawrence Frank said today.
Team officials said there was slight swelling in Kidd's left knee. He was hurt early in the first quarter of Tuesday's Game 2 but didn't show any effects of the injury in that game.
Kidd is being listed now as a game-time decision for tomorrow's Game 3 of the series but Nets teammates expect him to be in uniform.
If he can't go, or has to be limited in his minutes, the point guard burden will fall on rookie Marcus Williams and Vince Carter.
In two games, Kidd has been dominant. He had a near triple-double in New Jersey's Game 1 win and was almost as effective in Toronto's Game 2 triumph. In two games, he's averaging a team-high 11.0 assists and 10.5 rebounds.
