PHILADELPHIA -- Larry Brown hopes to return to coaching -- again.
The Hall of Fame coach received permission from the Philadelphia 76ers to interview for the Memphis Grizzlies' vacancy, a team spokesman said. Brown reportedly was to meet with Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley on Wednesday.

Grizzlies spokeswoman Stacey Mitch referred calls about the search to Stan Meadows, senior corporate counsel for the team. A message left at Meadows' office after business hours wasn't immediately returned.
Fired by the New York Knicks before last season, Brown returned to the 76ers as an executive vice president in January amid rumors he would eventually replace Maurice Cheeks. But team president Billy King said Cheeks will be back next season, so Brown is looking elsewhere for an opportunity. He even considered Princeton before the Ivy League school hired Sydney Johnson to replace Joe Scott.
The Grizzlies went from a playoff team a year ago to the NBA's worst record this season at 22-60. Coach Mike Fratello was fired in December and replaced on an interim basis by Tony Barone Sr. Earlier this month, Jerry West said he would step down as director of basketball operations July 1 at the end of his contract.
The 66-year-old Brown has won nearly everywhere he's been. And, he's been all over the country, coaching 11 teams in the ABA, NCAA and NBA. He won an NCAA national championship at Kansas (1988) and an NBA title in Detroit (2004). He also coached at UCLA.
In Philadelphia, Brown had his longest coaching tenure, 1997-2003. Despite occasional feuds with star Allen Iverson, Brown guided the 76ers to the NBA finals in 2001.
He left Philadelphia for the Pistons after the 2002-03 season, even though he had two years left on a contract that paid him $6 million a season. The 76ers released him from a contractual clause that prohibited him from coaching another NBA team if he left Philadelphia prematurely.
Brown clashed with team president Isiah Thomas in his only season in New York. He was fired by the Knicks last June after going 23-59 and received an $18.5 million payout from the team.

NY KNICKS 4 EVER! Will we ever find players like Anthony Mason, Xavier McDaniels, Patrick Ewing again? I hope so.

This is just nuts!
Everywhere he went, winning record! He comes to us and takes a dive! I hope he gets the job and shows the world that it was starbury and Zeke who were the real failures. Man oh man!
I'll never trust this' team again.

Way to go LB. Somehow, why do I get the feeling that wherever LB coaches next, that team will be a high playoff team in a few years? Amazing how we're the only exception.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

My goal is to coach at least part of one season with every team in the NBA before I retire.
Rest assured that as soon as I become coach of the Grizzlies, I will work diligently to bring Steve Francis back home where he belongs: With the Grizzlies.

It's not so hard.

the grizz are not going to hire brown. but why not interview the guy? at least get his perspective on the team b/c the guy knows bball. look at it as a semi-consultation interview as well. and west is advising the team so this has his blessing.
everything he pretty much said about this team has been spot-on. but what took him 2 mins to realize, took isiah a year (hopefully).
btw, if he's interviewing for the grizzlies job, then that kind of throws out the whole lb doesn't like to rebuild thing. that team is nothing but kids with pau gasol (who's an all star but not an elite player).

Great. Brown goes to Memphis and there's one more team who won't be doing any trading with us. Not that we're especially coveting anyone on their roster, but still.
(Or, maybe they'll want to do all their trading with us...)
Great, just what this forum needs. Another blue person.

TrueBlue is SeatsBlue. He renamed at BlueSeats request.
Hmmm... maybe I should rename to BlueSolace. And then we can have BlueBonn1977, IslesfanBlue, etc...

Dude there is no more seatsblue and you know that. You've been playing this mistaken identity game for a long time now. I used to be seatsblue and changed my name out of courtesy/request of Blueseats/Martin/Andrew and am now Trueblue. It's not that confusing seriously. Everyone on this board has a unique writing style that sets them apart from each other. I have not once been confused as to who anyone is on this board, ever!

Actually man, I really didn't know TrueBlue was really seatsBlue. Thanks for clearing that up. So there's just TrueBlue and now BlueSeats... oh and blueNorange now too. Phew... thats a lotta blues.
Hey I know... Maybe i'll junk this handle and start a new identity as a cynical knick fan frustrated with never getting to release his joy over the team.
I think i'll call him:
BlueBalls?
