I was fortunate enough to be able to contact Star Ledger writer Dave D'Alessandro regarding the injury exception for Luc, and the signing status of Lavor Postell. This is what he had to say.
Regarding the Oct 1st deadline:
The rules states that you can get 45 days to find a replacement if the guy is disabled between 7/1 and 11/30, so the only explanation I have is that the league's doctors determined that Luc was done back in early August, and that we all just found out about it later. Hence, the 45 days expire on Oct. 1. Doesn't matter though -- they're not going to spend it, unless Van Gundy has a jones for yet another body they can't really use.

...And regarding the much asked about status of Lavor
As for Lavor, they'll probably haggle with the kid and try to get him to take a non-guarantee going into camp, and he'll probably end up taking a partial guarantee on Monday morning. But I know for a fact that the coaching staff likes him, and thinks he'll be in the league for a while. Having said that, who needs five guys who play the two spot?

Many thanks to Dave for keying us in on what he knows.

Yeah the Ledger is good, and it is cool that you spoke with D'Alessandro, Andrew. I like the Daily News too, in fact it is probably my favourite. nydailynews.com is definitely my favourite NY sports source, because it retains all archived articles and news stories, which can be accessed for free, unlike on other sites. It is interesting to read through the Camby and Sprewell stories from '99, when they went from unwanted trade bait, to game-turning crowd favorites with their incredible play.

Here is one of my favourite past stories...http://www.nydailynews.com/2000-01-18/Metro_Sports/Basketball/a-53893.asp

I am planning on collecting all the Camby stuff from the past few years and linking to it on my site, Marcus Camby Online (previously advertised). Stay tuned! :)
We suck.
