Lee is a distant fourth among the best sixth men

There’s nothing else going on so we might as well revisit the best conspiracy theory I heard all season, the one about David Lee not starting because Isiah Thomas was positioning the energetic forward to get sixth-man of the year. A weird leg injury pretty much ended the discussion.


Or maybe something else was going on.

I’m wondering if Thomas was really setting Lee up to win comeback player of the year next season. Kidding. Nobody puts that much thought into devising a lineup. Not even somebody like Thomas.

The final voting tally follows.

Lee would’ve been higher on the list had the season not been cut short, but I don’t think he provided more of a boost than Leandro Barbosa, who won easily.

notice the dropoff in voting from stackhouse to lee. that is what i was trying to get across yesterday. i like lee, but the general consensus is that he 1.) needs some development still and 2.)needs to play for a winner. i firmly believe that he will jump ship once his rookie deal is up. there are tons of teams out there that have shown interest in giving him mucho $ if he decides to leave ny. unless, he catches the channing syndrome next year...

I hate that PHX personnel win every damn award, doesn't anyone else? MVP, GM of the Year, Coach of the Year, 6th man, etc... we get it, they're good. But their stats are inflated and you can't give every damn award to a team thats won jack! Who else is with me here?

Ginobili is a starter masquerading as 6th man. He's the premier player on one of the best teams in the world (Argentina). You telling me he's not worthy to start for his own club team?

Again, with Stack this award is given to former starters on 60 win teams.

Yawn. Why don't we just cast our votes for next year right now if Stackhouse, Ginobili, and PHX are going to exist again.

He is NOT going to jump ship. Don't we have his rights basically? It's a bit early to predict that anyway, let's see how next year unfolds.

Regarding the voting, getting hurt hurt him more than anything else IMO. But, not playing for a winner might have played into things as well.

Or it could be the injuries, combined with the fact that the Knicks were TERRIBLE this season. Sixth man of the year on a 33 win team... not likely.

colangelo + mitchell are going to win awards. that came out of nowhere. but the team won. that's the deciding factor.

I think the drop off was just due to injury. He's not going to get votes for 6th man when he played 55 games other candidates played 82
