I really don't like these kinds of questions. It's personal informationa and I advise everyone to be careful not to give out too much personal information. The reason why? I could ask you one question today and ask you another one in about a week. At the end of the year, I could know fifty things about you, personally. And the whole time, you might not of known that you gave out so much. Why do you want to be careful? Because there are people out there looking for information on people and I won't say for what that information might be used for in the end. LOL!
I'll never trust this' team again.

You are paranoid. Its demographic info and you don't have to participate.
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

I don't mean to offend you Kam77. I just think people need to be careful about what information they put out on the internet. It's called 'narrowing it down'. There's really no need to know were people live, or what race they are, or what they do for a living. I know I added a few things on the list, but it happens. I'm sure 99% of the people on this board, on most boards, are probably good honest people. It only takes one to ruin it all for someone.

think about it.
1) The kind of info you can gather about people from polls can be bought easily from spammers. I get tons of junk mail in my US Postal mailbox.
2) It will take someone 2 or 3 years to gather enough information about you to even consider identity theft.
3) someone will easily catch on if the same person keeps making polls or asks personal questions. The polls or the questions might be too personal to answer anyway!
4) Ever sign up for a mailing list online? Like cnet.com or Cnn? Those have more information to work with than polls like this one.

Come on guys. I'm all about being careful but I think you guys are being a bit too paranoid here. Your IP address gives out more information about who you are than polls like this one.

Your missing the point. Why put out more yourself? Don't be paranoid people! Come to the board, any board you go to and have fun. Just be conscious of what you say on any' board. I know my personal information is out there, but it is supposibly with responsible organizations, compared to organizations that are unknown. There's no way around it, but you can keep your personal information to a minimum. And how long has someone been coming to this board I wonder? Maybe two, three years now, like you mentioned? The only other reason I'll have information out there is if I'm in business and trying to attract customers. I know a few people who's info got taken and used for criminal activity. Credit card info for instance and they have no idea how they got it. I'm sure there are people here who have been taken advantaged of, or at least know someone who has. No one here knows were I'm from and will not' know, except the Administration.

And one more thing. Why do you' want to know were someone is from? Why would you defend against a simple cautionary note. I know, I know, now I am' being paranoid. LOL

The way I look at it, questions like this one don't give anything away. Can you tell who said they live in Queens? No you can't. Its a poll. And those people, that want to steal your information have much better ways than collect information on a forum for a year. wiki
There's no way around it, but you can keep your personal information to a minimum.
You should think about it and then decide whether the information you are giving out is personal or not. This is not phising or replying to a spam email. You are selecting an option that groups you and displays majority in a bar chart in polls, entirely harmless. You just have to be smart about what info you are giving out. Don't give out info thats too personal.

If the person collects information on a forum he will never order a fake credit card. Or for that matter anything significant. You cannot establish anything significant by holding different polls cause you cannot even collect specific data.
Why would you defend against a simple cautionary note.
because everywhere I go I find someone overreacting to stuff. There are other issues that need our attention: phising, nigerian email scams etc. Hey man, I am all for being safe and cautious but this is just not one of those places where you need to be cautious.

Thanks silverfuel for saying it. I can't believe someone could equate this to phishing. This is an anonymous poll!!!

I think it would be interesting to know where people live because of all the posts about what New York fans want and what New York is about. So far, it seems that New Yorkers are the minority here. Is there any harm in finding this out?

Soot yourself and have ad it then! Maybe I'll do a profile on you to prove what I know of you. I guarantee, you won't remember ever saying some of the things you've said in the past, or the upcoming past. It won't amount to me getting anything' from you or even wanting to, but it would prove a point, but now that I told you that, you'll probably think twice! Good day to ya.

Does it really matter whether you know or not? If I wasn't from here, then I'd probably be accused of not knowing anything about the Knicks, because I wouldn't be from here and you'd only know that, because you asked. There's one' example right there, you phisher!

playa2, there wasn't room for more than 8 choices. You're in that "somewhere else" category i think.
