STEAMING CURRY
KNICKS CENTER INJURED IN GARDEN FINALE
By MARC BERMAN

UNSTEADY EDDY: Eddy Curry was injured and
may have played his last game of the season
in the Knicks' 104-95 loss to the Nets last
night at the Garden.

April 17, 2007 -- Bulls coach Scott Skiles never pushed the right buttons to motivate Eddy Curry when he played in Chicago and turn him into the offensive monster he has become this season for the Knicks.

Apparently Skiles' remarks last week, when he said Curry is "having a very good year but it seems like he's being put on a pedestal awful quickly here," lit a fire under the Knicks' 6-foot-11, 285-pound center.

Curry is fuming at his former coach for demeaning his breakout season, calling Skiles "very disrespectful."

Curry's season may have ended last night in the Knicks' Garden finale. He strained his right hamstring in the first half and did not return in a 104-95 loss to the Nets.

With one game left, the Knicks fell to 32-49 and could reach 50 losses for the second straight year. Afterward, coach/president Isiah Thomas met with owner James Dolan for 15 minutes. Thomas said it was hardly a meeting.

"I hate losing. I just wanted to collect my thoughts," Thomas said.

Asked for a comment, Dolan said, "No boys. Nothing for you."

Curry said he will try to play in tomorrow's season-finale in Charlotte.

"If it's not hurting," he said, "I'm going to play."

The Knicks' season went up in flames in mid-March, coinciding with the new contract Dolan lavished on Thomas. The Knicks are 3-15 since and the only one of the nine New York major sports teams to not make the playoffs under the 2006-2007 umbrella.

Before the game, Stephon Marbury, who didn't play, addressed the crowd.

"There are going to be better things to come," Marbury said. "Thanks for sticking with us all season."

The fans didn't seem to know what to make of the season. During the fourth quarter, there was a "David Lee" chant followed by a "Dolan [bleeps]" chant.

Before the game, Curry spoke about Skiles.

"I realize what kind of person he is," Curry said. "I think I'm a bigger man, so I don't want to respond to what he said. I just think he's very disrespectful. But that's just the kind of person he is."

The Bulls said they traded Curry because of his irregular heartbeat. Despite Curry's emergence, the trade has not backfired on the Bulls, who are in the playoffs and hold the Knicks' lottery pick.

Asked if he'll be watching the lottery with trepidation, with Greg Oden and Kevin Durant available, Thomas said, "I'm happy with the player I have."

Curry is averaging 19.5 per game - higher than his 16.2 average in his pinnacle year in Chicago in 2004-2005 that was cut short in March by an irregular heartbeat episode.

"I'm going to feel a lot better going into the summer, knowing what they expect from me," Curry said. "I know how to improve myself and be a better asset to this team."

btw, this is the full quote from skiles:
“I don’t want to minimize what he’s doing,” Skiles said. “Eddy’s having a very good year. But it seems like he’s being put on a pedestal awfully quickly here. I don’t think that’s necessarily fair to him, because he’s still such a young player. He’s still improving. I like to watch him play, because I like him as a person.”

Curry is going to respond by coming back next year in just as bad shape and putting up the same empty numbers with the same pathetic effort on defense and on the boards.

Does anybody really believe differently?

Meanwhile the Bulls are going to take another great asset from that trade and build on their already young and athletic foundation, that has a great chance to get to a conference finals this year.

Nice catch, DJ. We truly have a team of babies. Skiles quote was a COMPLIMENT! Ey "Supa' Sta'" Curry took offense. That's because somewhere inside Ey knows that he's a fat, lazy player and his so-called improvement is mere facade. He's a phony, just like Isiah. Isles is right. Ey already thinks he's a star, so he's going to come back just as fat and missing ALL the fundamentals, not trying on defense... and get praised for it. Fuckin' primadonna. Sounds great!
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Incoming
Eddy Curry
6-11 C from Thornwood (HS)
19.5 ppg, 7.1 rpg, 0.9 apg in 35.4 minutes
Jamal Crawford
6-5 SG from Michigan
17.9 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 4.5 apg in 37.9 minutes
Jared Jeffries

Channing Frye
6-11 PF from Arizona
9.5 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 0.9 apg in 26.5 minutes

Would you do this deal and then move garnett for some lottery talent? Maybe even look to move him to the bulls for our picks we gave up for Eddy. I think you have to be crazy not to do that deal with Minny if your the knicks.

Fyre is never going to be an All-Star, crawford is too inconsistent, jefferies is awful and eddy is owed a lot of money and isn't a hard worker.

Your looking at cap space now in the future if you pull that deal and I think we would win more games to be honest

Garnett/James
Lee/Rose
Balkman/Q
Collins/Nate
Marbury/Francis

plus our pick this year we could start to build, it may take longer but whatever.......At the moment I really don't see a ton of positives for this team for the future....In two years we have some cap room and the ability to sign a top flight free agent

Why wouldn't the Wolves just trade KG for lottery talent?

I don't think you can trade for a player then turn around and trade him again. I think it is like 5 month window like the KVH trades. I kinda like the young core of the team right now. I do think Frye and Nate are expendable but could help you land late 1st round or second round picks. I personally don't think Garnett can handle the center position in the East. If I believe that Morris is capable of giving you anything then I would say that the deal is acceptable. But if you make this deal I think that Minn. should throw in a 2nd round pick this year.
1st round pick on Morris Almond
2nd round pick on Sean Williams

Eddy has to learn not to take media bait. I'm sure the media guy that read the quote didn't read everything skiles said.

Eddy has to learn that sometimes is good to just tell the media "I don't care, it doesn't bother me, im just focusing on making myself and our team better."

you can move a player in another deal as long as he is traded alone, he can't be moved again with other players.....

Really all your giving up in the deal is Curry

And Minnesota really had a strong chance to move Garnett for PJ Brown Deng, TT and perhaps this years pick before the start of the season but balked, and even if your just trading KG without this years pick its still a hom run.....But instead of playing foye, deng and tt all season and getting a probable top 3 pick they decided to go with mike james and kg and miss the playoffs again

Eddy's reaction is absurd. I guess he doesn't know how to take a compliment!

Compliment? I never saw the half of the comment that DJ highlighted and I'm sure Curry didn't either. I guess it depends on which paper you read and from whom you hear the quote from.

Eddy is over reacting. His tatoo parlor is telling him he gotta Tat somting on him to counter that remark.

These guys are becoming human "Post It Notes" to remind them of all kind of things! Tats to remind them to work hard, what their kids names are, where they are from, last 4 digs of SS#, where they parked the car, their wifes names, baby's mothers names, combos to the safe, dogs names, what day the garbage goes out, phone numbers, etc.

If he is offended then drop 50 points on the Bull everytime he see them. Use it as his motivation.

The only one affiliated with the Knicks who is given any amount of credibility and taken seriously is Malik Rose. Everyone else is a joke and everyone outside of the Knicks organization and a handful of fans knows it. Embarassment to the NBA.
