The silly romantics suggesting that Greg Oden should sit down for a discussion with Tim Duncan about staying in school can stop that nonsense now. Oden is a monumentally gifted player, a smart kid, and he belongs with the best players in the world.

Here he comes finally, slowly starting that walk toward commissioner David Stern on the stage at Madison Square Garden, toward a tomorrow that promises to make him one of the most intriguing pro prospects in a decade.

Greg Oden Sr. declared the inevitable to the hometown Indianapolis Star on Friday night: that his son, 7-foot and 280 pounds, is leaving Ohio State after his freshman year for the NBA draft. That's no surprise, nor is that he'll be represented by Mike Conley Sr., suddenly the agent to the Buckeyes' stars.

"Why not, as long as he finishes school in the offseason?" Oden Sr. told Jeff Rabjohns. "He's the kind of kid that, even though he'll have a lot of money, he needs to do more than just basketball."

"They had an exciting season, but why take the chance on him getting hurt?"

Oden will be the No. 1 pick in the draft. No one can pass on his shot-blocking and presence near the basket. No one can pass on a rapidly developing offensive game that is far ahead of where Patrick Ewing and Hakeem Olajuwon were as college freshmen. The debate about whether the No. 1 choice should be Oden or Texas's Kevin Durant will roar between now and the draft on June 28, but it's hard to imagine a circumstance where someone would have the guts to pick Durant over Oden.

The feeling in my gut says Oden becomes a Celtic.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

If he were to become a Knick, the bulls would come out and say 'I'lllllllll take that thank you'!
I'll never trust this' team again.

True. Honestly I'd rather he became a Bull than Celtic. Though, the thought of him becoming a Memphis Grizzly is very appealing right now.

And that could happen to. Bulls take him away from us and use him a trade.
I'll never trust this' team again.

It kills me to say it, but the bulls have done just about all of the right things. That's the way a basketball organization should be run. Not this crap shoot we have.
I'll never trust this' team again.

According to Mike Conley Sr. Oden is not in the draft...yet. If does make the jump I see him going to Grizzlies ( Oden and Gasol could be a problem), Bucks get Durant, Phoneix gets Noah, Celtics get Horford

Wrong!! I see him becoming a Celtic. It's been hard for the celics this yr losing a great player like Dennis Johnson and losing probably one of the best coaches in Red Aurbach.

Since the loss of these 2 cetlic pioneers ,it probably be fitting to give them the #1 pick which will turn out to be Greg Oden.

Is so, Curry wil have his hands full, playing Oden 3 to 4 times a season.
The Future. GO KNICKS!

I don't know. I have a really really hard time seeing him going to the Grizzlies. Outside of LeBron, Oden is the most hyped #1 in a long time. Something just doesn't sound right about Oden in Memphis, but it's technically possible. It's kind of like LeBron, where somehow you just knew the Cavs were going to get the #1, even though it could've gone other ways.

This will mark the first time I root for the Grizzlies. Hopefully Stern will find a way to get them the 1st and 2nd picks.
I just hope that people will like me
