Let me know if I made any roster errors. I put Jeffries over Balkman on the basis of minutes played, which is fair. Maybe at some point, we can try this on one of those basketball simulation sites.

It's funny, but the Layden Knicks were better. Slightly, but yes, they were.

What's the point of this though. They're both losers, I mean what are we talking about here. This is kind of stupid. Now we're playing against ourselves? As if things weren't bad enough as it is.

Simply put, the Thomas team IMO. That Layden team was one of the most healthiest teams that the Knicks have ever put on the court. Spreewell was the only starter who missed more than 5 days. They finished with 37 wins while this year team has 32wins and hasn't finished the season yet. But like 4949 said they are both bad but the Layden team was worst or atleast played like it.

Thomas 81 games played
Eisley 82 games played (he was the starter not Ward)
Sprewell 74 games played
Anderson 82 games played

Those Knicks were tough players (Spree, Ward, Kurt). They'd beat Isiah's soft team. 4-2

It would be interesting to vote on who the better starting center is: Kurt Thomas or Eddy Curry

My feeling with this one is that the fact that this is a valid discussion proves that the evident progress isn't very evident.

I think it's pretty close, but I gave the edge to the Layden/Chaney Knicks, who had the fundamentals down.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Houston plated 82 games but went straight to micro-fracture surgery when the season was over. IOW, he played his azz off (if I recall correctly it may have statistically been his best season) in spite of bone grinding pain. That team didn't shut it down when the March rains came, and they didn't wait for embarrassing blowouts to show some integrity. That team would breath hard on this one and send Marbury and Co home whining about the officiating in 6 games.

LOL. Blue they finished with 37 wins. This team has 32 and the season is still going. Despite when HOuston had his surgery. He played 82 games. That's laughable. Two bad teams but that 02-03 team is considered one of the most healthiest Knick teams and they were still under .500. That team shut it down in October when McDyess ("the savior") went down.

David Lee
Mardy Collins
Renaldo Balkman
Nate Robinson
Charlie Ward

Crawford and Spree would be explosive on the breaks. The rebouding would be pheonominal! Outside shooting, and from the three, not to mention defense, and blocked shots, with Camby leading the way, we'd be awsome! We could' actually have a team like this, if we waited and played out cards right.

the layden knicks played hard, but always had a serious problem when they faced teams with good athletes. Balkman, crawford and marbury would have a field day at the rim, and curry would catch about 10 allyoops on KT..... then on the flipside this Isiah knicks team could not defend the perimeter, if Houston got hot, Isiah knicks would be in trouble, fast..

I take Isiah knicks on talent and athlticism, but in a close, close series..

Layden Knicks easily. I chose 4-2 only because of the format but honestly they'd probably beat them 4-1.

Nice try, but lets look at the last month of the last few seasons:

02-03, Layden's 37 win team won 5 of their last 8.

03-04, Isiah and Marbury's triumphant 1st season won 4 of their last 7.

04-05, Isiah and Marbury's triumphant 2nd season won 4 of their last 12

05-06, Isiah and Marbury's triumphant 3rd season won 4 of their last 11

06-07, Isiah and Marbury's triumphant 4th season has thus far won 1 of their last 6, but I expect it will end up being 1 of their final 9.

Layden's April was the best April in 5 years and you consider it a shut-down? I can't wait to hear how you'd characterize Isiah's sad little Aprils.

Blue, they finished with 37 wins, man. There's no mystery. They played most of the season with their starters (unless you want to count McDyess). This current team has 32 wins and the season isn't over yet. This team is starting rookies and 2nd year players. WTF. I still don't understand why they only finished with 37 wins.

Key injuries. That was always the case. I remember it all too well, including the punch that knocked out Van Gundy.

Seeing as how seven game series come in May and June, I don't see how any rational fan could take Isiah's team over Layden's. Layden's squads were consistently in the playoff race throughout, but always came up a little short. Yes, Isiah's team is more athletic, but so what? This current team is much more a collection of players than an actual team. And one more thing: Layden's team while incredibly un-athletic played better defense.

Then, there's the Allan Houston factor. When in doubt, go with the best player. If still in doubt, follow that up with the second best player: Latrell Spreewell.

But I still say that a team that has starters who played significant minutes in the NBA finals should have more wins than 37. Blue makes it even worst when he gives them credit for playing hard to get those wins. LOL, I guess Isiah is right it is all about the injuries. 37 wins to 32. This team is bad that team was worst for whatever reason. And tkf is right that team had trouble with any athlethic team. But I get it. This team very bad and all other teams very good. Sorry if I am objective. Two bad teams.

btw, that Knick team constantly lost to the Chicago Bulls with Crawford and Curry. As I remember he used to kill them.

I edited out the last paragraph while you were posting... but, yes, they are both terrible teams. I still maintain though that the Layden Knicks would destroy the Isiah Knicks, especially when you consider every one of Isiah's team has a penchant for choking when it matters most. Layden's team was consistently bad whereas Isiah's team has streaks of decency amidst a sea of putridity.
