Pretty bad season. Doesn't look like "evidence progress"

Thanks Queeniepop. IMO your analysis shows that the team got off to a slow start and that injuries to Lee, Q, and Crawford derailed the finish (and that Francis sucks). For the rest of the season, the team was pretty much at or near .500.

That's why the addage about not putting too much into small sample sizes comes in. They played around .500 for a stretch and we'll calling this a victory. That was their best. If when they're tops, fully healthy, they're playing .450 - .500 and the rest of the time they're .300 - .400, they're destined to be a team in the .350 - .450 range every year. That's not hating, just fact. It's also unrealistic to not expect injuries. Every team has them. Good teams should be able to sustain an injury or two (we did, with the exception of Lee AND Crawford injured simultaneously). Long way to go, long way to go my friends. Finally, teams are supposed to come together in the clutch, injuries or not. A playoff run is that time. Instead, we crumbled, stopped playing hard and blame other teams for beating us with their reserves. Poor, piss poor.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Actually they got off to a "slow start" because they played just as many over .500 teams as under .500 teams. Then they had that "great" 19-16 record in a period when they played 27 games against under .500 teams. Then that "derailed finish" was when they played just as many over .500 teams as under .500 teams.

If a team played 27 out of 35 games against under .500 teams, you would hope that they were pretty much at or near .500 during that stretch.

Is this what you gathered from the breakdown. I gathered 35%, 43%, 47%, 55%, 36%, 20%.

I don't agree. You have to consider that when injuries hit this year, we were forced to play rookies. Next year, Balkman and Collins will be better prepared to play meaningful minutes if injuries occur again. Moreover, the team and the coaching staff will have a better idea of what the team is trying to do next season. IT can work on getting Curry to pass out of the double-team all summer and in training camp, and the players will have more defined roles in the offense now that IT has a better idea of what players can and cannot do. Additionally, Lee, Nate, and possibly Frye will all be better next year. Simply put, this team should be a more cohesive unit next season. Factor in the fact that the team should not start the year off getting booed at home, and I think it is very realistic to expect the team to perform at a .500 or better level next year. While that is not great, it is a start.

Rookies like Marbury, Curry, Frye and Jeffries? That group shouldn't be able to beat a bunch of sub .500 teams at home?

Until we can address the situation where our two franchise players are guys who consider basketball a hobby, we're gonna struggle.

this team has shown that, for whatever reason injuries or otherwise, it can fold and suck it up for extended periods. it has not shown it can do the opposite and put together strings of quality games. this is not a recipe for a good team/record.

Dude, I just realized, if you take our best "one game stretch" and project that record over 82 games, we'd go 82-0!

I still want to know why it is that we can't look at this season for what it was? This team was on target to come close to being what we all expected it to be and NO ONE goes into a season expecting to be without 3 top players for over a month. That's just not gonna be good for ANY TEAM. This team showed a consistent improvement as the season moved along and there's no reason to think that they wouldn't have continued to play well if they had a reasonable amount of good healthy.

TrueBlue put the season in context using winning %: 35%, 43%, 47%, 55%, 36%, 20%.

The trend was UP and only went down when the team had the serious injury. HOW CAN ANYONE CONTINUE TO PASS THAT OFF? You can't just say OH, they should be able to just overcome that. Not when they continued to lose guys as the season has drawn to an end. This season would've been a success if not for the crazy fluke of losing Q, Jamal and Lee when we needed them most.

Now next year if we can continue to improve this team, I think they can get off to a better start having developed some chemistry and they should have a good season next year. PROVIDED we don't lose important players for significant time ALL AT ONCE again.

The trend was UP as their schedule became a lot easier with 27 out of 35 games against teams with below .500 records.

Crazy fluke like losing Q, Marbury and Frye last year? It wasn't an excuse last year, don't use it this year.

Also, if nixluva or anyone mentions the 3 injured players now, they need to mention that we were blessed with very good health for the two-thirds of the season but failed to take advantage of it. If you want to be a .500 team, you've gotta play .600 during the stretches that you're blessed with good health. If you want to be a .450 team, I think you've gotta play at least .550 during those stretches. If you want to be a .400 team, you play .480ish during those health stretches (like we did).

Probably because there were so many issues with the team last season. Nobody wanted to even think that injuries was the reason why we only won 29games last season.

When Lee was healthy many people were saying how Lee was the difference maker in us winning and losing and claimed that Isiah wasn't using him enough and that he should be starting. Lee goes down and all of a sudden Lee wasn't that important and we should be winning without him. Which you guys are right. If we were a quality team we would have overcame these injuries. But im still amused how stances are flipped in order to bash Isiah consistantly.

Injuries don't matter. The team bus could crash into a ravine injuring all players and it still wouldn't matter. They should suck it up, hobble out onto the court with their crutches (or roll their wheel chairs) be manly and win games!
