Retirement Or Knicks, Says Webber
10th April, 2007 - 6:50 am
New York Post -

Chris Webber told The Post last night he could see himself retiring if he wins his first NBA title with the Pistons this June.

If he doesn't retire, Webber likely will give the Knicks another chance since he again becomes a free agent, according to a source close to C-Webb.

Webber revealed before facing the Knicks last night he tried to force a trade last summer to New York. The Knicks pursued Webber when he was bought out of his Philly contract in December, but Webber opted for his hometown, Detroit.

"This summer I definitely wanted to come here (to New York), really tried to ask my agents to make things work when I was in Philadelphia," Webber said. "It wasn't working out. With the opportunity to come here (to Detroit), it was a no-brainer. This was the better team and I needed a chance to win a championship."

Asked about his summer free agency, Webber said, "I'm not really looking at this summer. Looking at seeing if I can win a championship right now. Not thinking of next year. If I win one, I just might disappear. You know what I'm saying."

Asked if he meant disappear as in retire, Webber said, "I got to win a championship this year and I might then disappear. I don't even know."

I'm not sure if I should have utter contempt for athletes that sign on with a contender in an effort to win a ring?

I mean, the guys that didn't even play for any of the championship teams- are they champions? Or bench warmers that got lucky and were in the right place at the right time?

The wording is a little strange there.
Sh-t in the popcorn to go with sh-t on the court. Its a theme show like Medieval times.

YES. Webber to NY. I guess I was wrong when I said you can't bring in any franchise players with the MLE. Isiah's plan is working! Forget everything bad I ever said about Isiah. This proves that Isiah has made NY the place to be!!!!

Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

the only reason he mentions NY is he thinks he can get a max MLE out of Isiah.

franco is right and Webber may also be right. Isiah is dumb enough to do it. Funny how the only players that are willing to come ehre are washed up veterans thiking about retirement. Actually it's not funny, it's sad.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

if we trade French Frye over the offseason, i wouldn't mind bringing CWebb in to take over his role... he's a great passer & would be a good match w/Curry IMO, but we'd need someone who could block shots to play the SF w/those 2 guys in the frontcourt, cuz neither of them play much of any defense.
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.
