GARDEN GROWTH
By MARC BERMAN
April 9, 2007 -- Tonight's Garden match between the Knicks and Pistons is sold-out, as is the Knicks' home finale next Monday vs. the Nets. Despite their losing record, the Knicks' attendance soared as the season went on, selling out 17 of their final 20 home games. In their first 21 games, they sold out five times. Rising attendance was a factor in owner James Dolan's decision to give Isiah Thomas a new contract, a source close to Dolan said.

GOD arose JESUS from the grave !!! Isiah arose the Knicks from their grave !!!

Rising attendance and the knowledge that the team was about to tank due to all the injuries. Dolan wanted to get IT extended on a high note and knew that the team was likely to loss games in the final weeks due to injuries.

I agree man. After Lee and Craw went down, we had a very small chance of ending the season well.

This team is a real Drama...
IT is genious. Bbal Coppola.
His ability to setup on court trillers, browles, buzzer bitters (see Eddy 3, Lee tip-in, Marbs runner, Craf miultiple miracle shots) is unmatched and will go into the history of NBA.
It should bring more spectators to Knicks from wrestling, boxing, street fighting, Poker, and Cheerleading and Dance Competitions.
Well deserved extension.

What choice did Dolan have? If he goes with a new Coach and GM, he's assuring himself of another major upheaval. There's no guarantee that he hires a better management group either. The team did show many positive signs and he knows Isiah has an eye for talent, so why not let him keep going. Nothing critical happened with the attendance, so he wasn't forced to do anything just yet. The team was much more exciting and watchable this year. For a while they kept fans interested and believing. Even to the end the fans are still coming.

Think about is, if the team stays healthy there's little doubt that they would be in the playoffs right now and that means that Isiah was doing his job. Do you fire a guy because of a rash of injuries? Especially given the way the team has still been fighting to stay in the race?

i agree with nixluva on why dolan should keep isiah around longer. we have an owner, who really doesn't have wins/losses at the top of his list in terms of judging a gm. his standards are different than alot of fans so it is not surprising why or when isiah got his extension. sather has been around for 8 years, i expect the same for isiah (he will probably last as long as mchale).

fans should just brace themselves or prepare themselves for the fact that it will take a long time here (if ever) to build a winning team and we will probably not be in serious title contention during his reign as owner.

but they still give you something to watch and talk about.

If you have no doubt this doesn't mean there is no doubt
Let's talk about what is, not abot what might had happened
We do have a good show - but do we have or will have a good team?
And do we really need it?

you know, considering dolan is slowly integrating himself into the team (like cuban) by showing up at halftime, hanging with the players, playing videos for them, etc...he is not going to want to disrupt that by bringing in a new coach/gm who may not like that. isiah is going to be around for a while. enjoy the ride

Dolan doesn't think in terms of titles. To him a title is secondary to a packed stadium and lots of MSG subscribers. He's a pure business man. The Knicks given their present direction will become a playoff team and you know what that means! Whether they eventually become a title contender is irrelevant to Dolan. What WE WANT and what DOLAN wants are two different things.

100% true, unfortunately.

I'm with fishmike. This team is barely worth talking about anymore.
