NY fans want defense, intensity, heart, proud, greatness.
Dolan/Mills/IT mafia wants highlights, stars, controversy, and show up.

Are they trying to change the Knick fan base?
Can we prevent Atlantization/Blazorization?
Or it is over?

I think when Isiah arrived he was told that Knicks fans were bored and wanted a more exciting and uptempo team by his group of advisors. Then when the fans continued to be disenchanted with the team he realized that NYers prefer lunch pail guys and not the model he originally thought. He didn't realize taht the reason NYers didn't like the team of Shanvis Eisleyspoon is because they didn't win and had no future not becasue they were boring.

Now Isiah is making an adjustment. At least trying to go after defensive players. I think were he is missing as far as NYers are concerned is that outside of Nixluva, NYers hate excuses. He'll catch on with that one one day too.

those must be the worst advisors in sports history. hasn't the mark of nyk players always been gritty, tough-nosed (as you say lunch pail guys, i like that, i'm going to steal it, ty) players who have bucket loads of passion????

I mean typically, from a business perspective I guess i can understand why dolan and his buddies would think fans want dunks and crossovers. the average NBA fan is mindless and believes everything they see on ESPN, and that's all they need to be satisfied. but ownership should know Knick fans aren't average nba fans, they want all those things you said. players who will leave their hearts out on the floor.

but then again dolan never was a knick fan like all the old owners, so he doesn't love the knicks like an owner should, and because he isn't a fan himself, he therefore doesn't understand the fans. it aint over but we gotta get someone in the front office who will kiss dolan's ass to keep him happy, but at the same time who understands the kind of team we want.

I don't think that Dolan and his buddies think that of the fans.

I never thought Layden was fired because of the Knicks record. I always and still believe he was fired because his team could not generate any press. Ticket sales were way down under him and the Nets were getting all the press.

i think it's pretty safe to say that as long as dolan is running the team, the chances of truly committing the franchise to building an elite team (and the steps necessary) will probably not take place.

"Dolan-owned franchise" and "building an elite team" are not mutually exclusive. Dolan's goal is to build an elite team. How he goes about it may not be the way to go but to say that he isn't committed to building an elite team is factually wrong.

It is in every interest of Dolan's for there to be playoff games in Madison Square Garden. Not one series where you're lucky to get two extra gates at home, but rather a long playoff run where you get 5-7 games minimum at home.

Simply put, its more profitable to put a better team on the floor.

What i DO agree with is the fact that as long as we're a contender and a conference semi-finalist or conference finalist every year, i don't think Dolan will be looking to improve on that like say an owner like Cuban or Steinbrenner would.

Dolan, i think its fair to say, is not driven to win titles. He is driven to pack the garden with as many home gates as he can get, and he will not ever break-up a decent team to be horrible in the hopes of getting a once-in-10years talent like an Oden.

As a knick fan, i'm sorry to say, you better come to grips with this realization. If you do, maybe you'll start to enjoy the progress more. Or maybe you'll wise up and root for someone else.
