After a terrible loss to the Pacers

http://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/stories/MYSA040207.01D.BKNspurs.pacers.gamer.372b257.html

"I thought it was a pathetic performance for a team that's trying to get prepared to go into the playoffs and get focused for that," Popovich said. "That was very disappointing. We played the last quarter competitively, but before that I thought we played embarrassing basketball.

"A lot of it had to do with the energy, the toughness and the defense of the Pacers. A very disappointing loss for us. A pathetic performance."

Instead ISAYUGH glosses over such performances to the media and writes letters of sympathy and encouragement to each player afterwards.

Yup, agreed.

That's why he's got a few rings. Cuz he tells it how it really is.

he difference is he's got a roster full of solid players that should play better

and we have a roster of marginally talented, but flawed players trying to figure out how to win.

I bet Popavich would be saying different things if he was coaching this squad.

When fans say things like you said it just shows where the bar is set. People act this roster is full of first yr players. It's not, it's predominantly a veteran roster that should be past such things like effort and energy. But to each his own, I guess.

This is just some BS. For one thing Isiah will obviously make his point during games and directly to the player, as he did with Nate and Steph early in the season, by benching him. Also I'm sure that he speaks his mind in the lockerroom at the half, after games and during practice. Just because he doesn't attack them to the press all the time doesn't mean anything.

For the most part Isiah has gotten this team to play hard, so what's the beef? They make mental errors which has to stop, but in terms of effort they've been pretty good at that all year. Isiah isn't the only coach to be like he is. In the NFL Lovey Smith and Tony Dungy were successful and neither one is a screamer or big on blasting his team in the media. And that's in Football one of the most emotion driven sports.

reminds me of an LB quote from last year...."in all my years of coaching, i never thought i would have to coach effort."

this is what i don't really understand. people will go balls to the wall to defend guys like eddy, jamal, marbury, etc. yet, the last time i checked, we still lose games and at a pretty big rate. so what kind of players are people trying to defend? it's nice to have players you like but come on folks, the bigger picture is that with all these players, we're still not a good team.

No need to be a screamer. Just be honest. If your team can't take the criticism, my guess is that they aren't a winning team.

For the most part Isiah has gotten this team to play hard, so what's the beef

Becasue playing hard "for the most part" is unacceptable.

That's teh point Popovich is getting across to his players. Taht is the point we need to get accross as well. We have bombed in terms of effort in some of teh most crucial games against teams worse than us. And now when we are struggling with injuries and praying to make the playoffs(evne though one team ahead of us is 3-17 in their last 20 games) we need to point to those nights where we gave "effort for the most part" and realize that is the difference between a good team and a bad team.

Nixluva it's okay to get on some of the guys you like. It doesn't mean you hate them. It just means you are being honest. We blew a lot of games this year that would have made a huge difference now. And while some of us were complaining some of the rest of us were making excuses saying we are giving effort "for the most part". That's the differenece between making the playoffs and not.

From what i've read around here there's been plenty of hate spewed at the players on this team. It's not just a tough love thing. Guys are calling for players to be traded and others have totally given up on them saying they stink and will NEVER be any good. So I don't really think that what you're saying is reflective of the attitudes of many of the guys around here.

yeah I wouldnt be suprised if Dolan's wacked out media policy actually prevents Isiah from saying stuff like that even if he wants to.

Dude I've heard you attack Steve Francis several times in the past month. Why is it okay for you to spew hate towards him but when someone else mentions a trade about someone else(that you happen to like, like Frye) all of a sudden you say they are negative. Everyone has opinions about how to better the team and they are all as valid as yours. My advice is to stop overreacting to the few guys that want to trade everyone and realize that 90% of the board loves the young guys but wants to make the same general moves as you do. Just like when we all predicted 35-41 wins during the preseason. we are all generally on the same page. But to run around say the fans are unfair to the Knicks becasue a couple posters want to "blow it up" is a tad over-reactive I think.

I personally like Frye. I voted for him in that failed Knick elimination game earlier this year. But to better the Knicks i have to admit trading him may be the best logical decision at this point. Keeping him is not a travesty but packaging him in a trade may be the best choice.

You defend this team so much 90% of what you say makes no sense whatsoever. Then when it's brought to your attention some of the things you said in the past, that was so homeristic and turned out to be way off, you develop a case of amnesia. You don't coach effort or energy ever. These players chit on fans like you. You wake up every morning put your cape on to defend these bums while they continually put themselves in these situations and for the most part let you down. Did you ever have to second guess if players Like Patrick, Oakley, Mason, McDaniel, Starks, Johnson, Camby, Houston, Sprewell, Childs were bringing effort? NOPE! Going into next yr with this Fraudulent club we have to worry about the same things over again from 3-4yrs ago. Why?
