Michael Ray Richardson has been suspended for the rest of the CBA championship series for comments made to the Albany Times Union on Tuesday.

"I've got big-time lawyers," Richardson said when asked about the contract that he was offered by GM Jim Coyne, according to the Times Union. "I've got big-time Jew lawyers."

When told by the reporters that the comment could be offensive to people because it plays to the stereotype that Jews are crafty and shrewd, he responded with, "Are you kidding me? They are. They've got the best security system in the world. Have you ever been to an airport in Tel Aviv? They're real crafty. Listen, they are hated all over the world, so they've got to be crafty."

And he continued, "They got a lot of power in this world, you know what I mean?" he said. "Which I think is great. I don't think there's nothing wrong with it. If you look in most professional sports, they're run by Jewish people. If you look at a lot of most successful corporations and stuff, more businesses, they're run by Jewish. It's not a knock, but they are some crafty people."

And the offensive remarks didn't stop there.

According to the Times Union, Richardson told a fan who heckled him early in Tuesday's game, "Shut the [expletive] up." And near game's end, he shouted at another heckler, "Shut the [expletive] up, you [derogatory term for gay men],"

Edit: I'm not jewish but people have to realize what they are saying?

Micheal ray of all people should know saying anything like that would get him some bad press and trouble with whatever basketball thing he is involved in.

Anyway, saying Jewish people are crafty is racist? Saying that they do well in business is racist?

If he said Jewish people were only good enough to shine his shoes then we are talkin some serious racism.

This was just a cocaine spazz. Guys that used to do coke tend to spazz like they are on speed and say some wild ****.

To be honest, I sometimes find it hard to differ between dumb stereotypics and racism.

It surely is not the same and I really think calling admittedly dumb stereotypics racist somewhat belittles realy racism.

Still his remarks where off the mark and stupid!!!

hey i'm jewish and i'm getting a laugh out of his remarks. i know not everyone will and i know you don't say that stuff to the press, but really i think his remarks were funny and i'm not offended in the least. "i've got big-time jew lawyers."

He was accused of being stereotypical. Not racist. Racist is feeling or knowing that your kind is supreme or dominant over another race or ethnic group or sexuality, yada yada.

A stereotype is a generalization (MOST PEOPLE) turned into a universalization (All people.) You can say something like "Those Italians are all great cooks!!!!" and it's a stereotype.

You are right, but can you punish somebody of being so dumb to believe and reproduce stereotypes?
Racism should be punished and banned from the possibilities of mass media but can you punish somebody for being dumb?

Oh please dont get me wrong, I am very aware of the stereotypes that you can have in mind (im a sociologist its my job to stereotype people). And of course you got plenty of occasions where your stereotype is in fact hitting home perfectly (just visit Oktoberfest in Munich sometime and you will find your typical German with plenty of beer and Sauerkraut and all in every corner (in fact most of those people at the Oktoberfest you see will be Australien, Italien or American, but so what ;-)).

All I am saying is people should not be so dumb and really believe that a stereotype works on everybody in the "group" of people you talk about.

See not every cop likes donuts right?! ... Oh damn that was a bad example!!!
