This is just awful. And, to think, LB was such a folk hero around here.

Severed Limbs Found on Dolan Property, Lloyd Harbor

Police made a startling discovery earlier this week when they found two severed human legs brought in by the ocean tide in two different locations on the North Shore.

Lloyd Harbor police announced Wednesday that a fisherman happened across a human leg lying on the shore in Lloyd Harbor while he was at the beach the night before. The second leg was found along the shoreline of a private beach in Cove Neck that is owned by Cablevision Systems chief James Dolan. The limb was discovered by one of Dolan’s caretakers, who then contacted authorities, according to Nassau police spokesman, Lt. Kevin Smith.

Cops believe the severed limbs may match a headless torso that was found almost a month ago across the Long Island Sound in Westchester County. No apparent links to the body parts can be found until conclusive information from the medical examiner’s office is received, according to Smith.

Based on a report filed by the Westchester County medical examiner, the torso was said to belong to a Hispanic or light-skinned African-American woman between 35 and 50 years old. The torso was found in a suitcase on March 3 by two people walking on a public shore, and showed several stab wounds, according to media reports.

In a joint effort, the Nassau and Suffolk medical examiner's offices will perform DNA and other forensic tests on the two recently found limbs.
