Hey guys. As it turns out I was off this week (nice timing). Anyway, I went down to NC over the weekend with my girlfriend and came back Monday night. I noticed my left eye was starting to bug me, and knowing that this had happened to my mother, I went and got it checked out yesterday, under the suspicion that this is what it was. Sure enough, my retina was detaching due to two tiny tears/holes in the retina. I had a small procedure yesterday where they freeze the holes to seal them and insert a small air bubble to push the retina back down. The bubble desolves after 4-5 weeks. It has a very good chance of fixing the problem; if not I'll have to have surgery. I'll find out today how the progress is. Anyway, I guess I look like a pirate wearing an eye patch, but all should be well once this is done. Like I mentioned earlier, it had happened to my mother a few years ago, and she recovered just fine. Nonetheless, it's no fun.

On the positive side, my right eye shows no signs, so it's just my left eye.

Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Yes, it's a good thing I got it taken care of reasonably quickly. With something like this, if you don't get it taken care of, you could go blind.

Some of the symptoms I saw were floaters, small lightning flashes, and an arc of flashing peach colored light in the bottom right corner of my left eye's field of view (not too noticeable with both eyes open).

Being nearsighted, the risks are much higher than someone with normal vision.

Anyway, Nalod, where in NC are you? We were within 30 minutes of Charlotte for most of our trip down there.

Nalod about 90miles from Charlotte.

I think watching the knicks can make you go blind!

Well I think what happened is I saw Eddy Curry not defending anyone near the basket for so long that my eye adjusted and blocked out that part of the television which shows Eddy on defense. Now I see the same Eddy Curry that everyone else does!

Wow, I'm off today and just got back from the eye doctor. No joke! I just went for a preliminary eye exam to see if I'm a candidate for Laser Surgery (everything looks good so far). Going for additional tests on April 16th. Funny how I log on here and the first thing I see is Solace's post. Kinda spooky.

Anyway, good luck with everything. I'm sure the minor thing you had done will do the trick. Get well soon my brotha!

I'm not buying this story. I think it's just a ploy by Solace to get attention. I say prove to me that retina is detaching. I say take your retina out and mail it to me so I can see first hadn that it is actually detached.

Bip, that's a good idea, and for that matter, Solace should consider labeling it with thumb tacks to show you the exact problems.

Hey Solace, I hope it all works out for you without going back to the doctor. Now you got me worried about my retina detaching(although I haven no symptoms, but now I know it can happen)

Best of luck bro

Just got back from the doc. Eye patch is off, but now I have distorted vision in my left eye. Doc says everything is healing nicely and retina is back in place, but will take a while for my eye to fully heal from the surgery and get back to normal. Plus there is that bubble in my eye for the next month. Fun fun. But at least all is well so far.

Good to hear you're recovering. I mean... think about it... in a worst case scenario - imagine if you needed a text-to-speech converter reading the ultimateknicks forums for you. That would be terrible.

Anyway...
It's funny that we're talking about pirates at work today and eye patches. Myth Busters proved that it was plausible that sailors/pirates used to wear eye patches to help them adjust their vision to the dark insides of their ships. Just flip the patch from eye to eye. And voila. Instant night vision.

I'm glad to hear you are recovering, although i find it convenient that you magically start recovering as soon as I ask you to mail me your eye for proof. Very suspicious.

Feel better Solace!!

Downside is, right now, in order to use the computer I have to put something over my left eye otherwise I get a sort of double vision. Can't wait till that goes away.
