The New York Knicks signed Kentucky center Randolph Morris to a two-year, $1.6 million contract Friday, an NBA source told ESPN Insider Chad Ford.

Morris declared for the 2005 NBA draft as a freshman and went undrafted. The NCAA allowed him to return to school after serving a suspension, but NBA rules prohibit Morris from re-entering the draft, which made him an unrestricted free agent.

Morris averaged 16.1 points and 7.8 rebounds a game this season for the Wildcats.

In my opinion, thats a great move by Zeke. Morris made a stupid decision about declaring last year but prior to the draft and the Frye draft, I was filling up this board about how we should go after him. He's a got a good lowpost game, he's got a decent jumpshot and he can rebound the ball. I think he has a lot of room to grow too. Excellent signing by Isiah. This honestly makes me wonder if Frye's time here in New York is going to be over come this summer.

Note to everyone: The reason Morris was able to be signed by an NBA team was because of a loophole from last years draft. Don't think this will happen again, but I'm glad we got lucky to exploit it.

This is freaking great. I've been wanting to do this for a couple years now (jeez, I wanted to even draft him). It's like paying for a lotto pick or a draft pick. Better to use the money on something like this than crappy veterans.

He's really ramped up his shotblocking and rebounding. He's on the way up.

Good overview of his story:

I've beaten Isiah over the head about 99% of his moves, but this was a GREAT and I mean GREAT move. Morris was likely a low 1st round selection had he been eligible for the draft, so like VDes said, we got a free 1st round pick by signing him. Excellent play by Zeke.

Nice signing by Glen Grunwald. Don't know why Zeke gets the credit when he's not really the GM anymore, by his own admission.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

He's another big soft center. Kind of a cross between Frye and Curry.

If it didn’t work in Phoenix with Nash and Stoutamire... it’s just not a winning formula. It’s an entertaining formula, but not a winning one. - Derek Harper talking about D'Antoni's System

Curry $8mil
James $5mil
Cato $1mil
Morris $800,000

The sad part about this breakdown Morris is probably the best of the bunch.

He played against Dwight Howard in high school and then on his AAU team. Was one of the nation's top recruits.

Really strong upper body and good strength around the basket. He's improving his rebounding and shotblocking but isn't an exceptional athlete. Needs to improve the range on the jumper. Likes contact, draws contact, goes to the line.

Who would I compare him to in the NBA? Maybe Jamaal Magloire, especially in terms of build and physical ability.

Soft? You're horribly misinformed.

I like Cato too. I think he's our best center.
