Raptors Lose Bargnani Long Term
21st March, 2007 - 9:19 am
Toronto Star -

Andrea Bargnani will miss a substantial part of the rest of the NBA regular season after having an emergency appendectomy early this morning.

According to various Italian media reports, including the website of La Gazetta dello Sport, the 21-year-old rookie became ill after practice yesterday and had the surgery overnight at a Toronto hospital.

There is no official word from the Raptors on the surgery, or how long Bargnani will be sidelined. Recovery from an appendectomy can generally take between three weeks and a month; the NBA regular season ends April 18

shut up you bastard. just shut up. you know i'm feeling vulnerable right now.

significant blow to toronto. luckily, they built a big enough lead to not lose the division (5.5 games). but now they'll definitely be the road team vs. the bulls in the first round.

Juan Dixon. Gotta check juan on the perimeter.
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

Mo Pete

he's been in the doghouse. he needs to step up his play b/c it's been crappy since the break.

the guy that needs to really step it up is garbajosa. bargnani played backup center and played with bosh making the other big man leave the block to gaurd him on the perimeter. you can't replace that impact with dixon or mo pete. garbajosa has to be the guy to stay out on the court and hit shots.

Hmmm... Bargnani has played well, so it's a hit, but seriously, I was looking at his rebounding numbers, and they are AWFUL... they even make Channing Frye's or Eddy Curry's look good in comparison.

Bargnani is Dirk, no big rebounding to be expected.

He might be better than dirk sooner than later.

Dirk is grabbing 9.6 boards this season- I don't think that's bad.

Bargnani looks to be putting up decent boards of late with more playing time.

3.9 rpg in 25 mpg is awful for a big man.

That's 7.5 rebounds per 48 minutes. By contrast, some of the Knicks have the following:

Channing Frye - 10.0 rebounds per 48
Ey Curry - 9.6 rebounds per 48
David Lee - 16.7 rebounds per 48 (more than double!)
Jared Jeffries - 9.2 rebounds per 48 (and he's a SF)
Renald Balkman - 13.3 rebounds per 48
Quentin Richardson - 10.4 rebounds per 48

^ Mind you and that's with the fact that we consider Frye and Eddy Curry to be subpar rebounders for big men. That would be Bargnani could only be classified as terrible. Dirk is a MUCH better rebounder than Bargnani, no contest.

Dirk averaged 2.9rpg in 21mpg his rookie year. I think the rebounding will come in due time for Bargnani.

Just pointing out the facts. We talk about rebounding heavily on this board. Why does Bargnani get a pass while we slam others? I think Bargnani's rebounding is awful. Yes, he's young. Yes, it can improve, but not a good sign to start out. His rebounding is so poor, that if I was voting, I don't give him ROY solely based on that.
