yeah that's true. I was talking about this with a couple of friends recently, and we got into how when you look at the league over the past 10-15 years, the Power in the league has slowly shifted from the East to the West. a lot of it had to do with good players and coaches being drafted and moved into the West, and a lot of it had to do with all of the super stars in the East retiring around the same time leaving the east empty to rebuild. as the East gets stronger over the coming years, I can definitely see the league beginning to at least approach better balance and therefore a more competitive league overall, I mean the east isn't going to stay this bad forever.

The league is in flux. The last time it was this bad was probably just before Bird and Magic came on the scene.

It's all cyclical. The East is just reloading and will rise again. There are a lot of young teams in the East that look like they have some promise for the future. Of course I include the Knicks in that bunch.

if oden and durant both go to EC teams, combined with lebron, dwade, bosh, dwight howard, and obviously, renaldo balkman, well its safe to say the east will rise again.

I think there was one year Jordan's Bulls made the playoffs and were about 20 games under .500. I don't think a playoff team has ever had that bad a record before. (I mention this because I like typing anything negative about Jordan's Bulls!)

The numbers for the conference are a little skewed when you consider the differences in east vs that of the west. The west clearly has better teams than the east. An argument can be made that the league just has a few very dominant teams that are built for the championship runs. In a few years these dominant teams will disappear and the not so dominant teams will become dominant. It's a cycle. But going back to the East vs West situation. Considering if you are western team, you have to play teams like phx, dal, Spurs, hou more than 2 times in a season added to that, the other teams placed in the east would probably rank 3rd. Even though the teams have bad records, I must admit it is very exciting from a fan's perspective to see the race and to finally have meaningful basketball being played for many teams in March and April. I mean honestly, stars are born in the playoffs. You never know what could happen, teams upset other teams and things happen. In the playoffs everyone is 0-0. You get hot at the right time, get a lucky bounce or call and your off to the next round.

94 Denver, 99 NY. Not saying NY would get lucky, but any team. But just imagine what it would be like to make it to the 2nd round of the playoffs. I wonder what the naysayers would say. Man I have to go wait for that flying star so that I may wish on it.

I wish the first round could go back to best of five.
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

or at least do something about the format of the playoffs. i don't like how the team with homecourt gets the first 2 games, plus game 7 at home. in a 7 game series the underdog gets a better shot at coming back if he gets the last game at home or even the first game. i went off topic but this is something that has always peeved me
