I'm sure he will be....but not straight out of college. Noah will show up, and hopefully, all things going to plan will be a great rebounder, and have perfect shotblocking instincts. But, and this is what really annoys me about the overly-excessive hype all these guys get, the first time he meets Malik Rose, Tyson Chandler, Erick Dampier, PJ Brown and any one of the myriad crafty NBA big men in the league, he will be as lost as a spaceman without moonboots. Unless we are talking about otherworld talents like a LeBron, Duncan, Shaq or Wade, it will take time for any other these guys to intergrate into the league state of play.
I'm not denying for one second that Noah has huge upside and has the possibility of being a great NBA player. But he is certainly not going to be that in his first year. In his first year he will be a raw, tactically inept, offensively challenged power porward, just like almost every other athletic freak coming out of college. And that what he's supposed to be. that's his platform to become the great player he could be. but to expect him to come in and tear up the league really gets on my nerves because how can you expect that from him? Has he ever shown you that, consistently, over 82 games, against NBA opposition? Of course he hasn't. He will, maybe, but he hasn't yet.
So yeah, to say 'Id love to have Noah on this team because he's going to be a great PF' is fine. But saying 'I want Noah on the team for what he would provide NOW' is not only completely unrealistic, but is also unfair on the player himself. It MIGHT be true, theres always that possibility. But to expect it from a player like Noah (as opposed to a player like Oden/LeBron/Duncan/Shaq/Ewing who dominated their opposition) is wholly unrealistic.
Some men see things as they are and ask why. I dream things that never were and ask why not?
