yankees, mets, rangers, giants, jets...how many ny area fanbase's are so split on their own team?

it seems like 1/2 the fanbase like the team.
the other 1/2 dislike the team.

and their positions get more fanatical when arguing with the opposing viewpoint.

this is not only nuts, but damn interesting.

To be quite honest, I was thinking about this last night when I was reading the forum. People are so far split apart about what they think about this franchise, it's pretty incredible. I don't think theres any other franchise in this area that is even close to the Knicks in the this manner.

I agree.

Like I've said, we're all serious Knicks fans and pretty much all of us want the team to succeed. But while some of us shake our heads and moan and just wait for the day when Dolan is no longer the owner, others seem to be able to look past all of this franchise's moronic moves and just look at the positives. Personally, I don't know how those people can merely accept what has happened with this organization, but whatever.

We're all fans, but we all go about it in different ways.

I think Giants fans are somewhat similar, though not quite as divided as Knicks fans. The Giants are pretty hard to figure out these days. Coughlin is a pretty divisive character. Eli has his share of haters.

Never alone with a schizophrenic!

Its a conditional love. WE love out knicks but if they don't succeed then most fans want players who will succeed!

Succeed and we love you forever!

Im sure the Celt fans are the same. Love the team, but they want winners and won't be happy until they get it.

dj I think a lot of it gets down to age. I bet most fans who are between the age of 27-37 are considered what would be a HATER. The others fall into too young to grasp what it takes to bring in a championship culture and the others fall into too old disconnected and don't really care for change. I'd like to know the ages of those who post on this forum.

I am Rangers fan and on the Rangers boards everybody likes the team.
We are arguing a lot about plays, refs, some games and players but it is all minor.

But it wasn’t this way when Rangers were run as Knicks are running now.
Star-punching, signing washed-up show-up players for huge contracts, lies to the funs and media, politics...
It was same division on the Rangers boards.

No unity on the team - no unity on the fan base.

Yes Celtic fans are about as bad. They seriously go at it over who they should pick if they get the #1 pick and what they should do with Paul Pierce, Doc Rivers, and Danny Ainge.

I agree on the Giants. That fanbase is pretty divided.

I'm sure Peyton winning didn't help unite it.

It probably did. It just means they have to wait 4-5 more yrs for a championship at worst if things follow suit. Eli's overrated anyway he won't even be a Top 5 QB for the next 3yrs.

I'm in my 40's and while I remember the atmosphere of the last championship team, I wasn't as into Pro sports at that time to really appreciate it. The Knicks did become my favorite sports team, followed by the Jets and Yankees. I really don't ever remember a reaction to a team like this. In general it seems like of all the teams the Knicks having lost so much recently have the least overall positive image. This is strange considering the Jets haven't actually made it to the Super Bowl over the same period of time, while the Knicks have at least gotten to the finals.

Still there's a LOT of anger towards the Knicks Ownership, which isn't going to change. This is why I don't concentrate on that. It's silly and a waste of time. MSG and the Knicks is a goldmine, they aren't going to give that up. The lowest i've felt about the team was Layden's last season. I saw no light at the end of the tunnel. I couldn't see how we could possibly get out of the mess we were in. Who would take the players we had? Now I can see light and I like many of the young players we have. I don't understand how any longtime fan can't get behind this team, when we've waited so long for a talented young team.

I am not sure that Owner is the MAIN problem.
Dolan ownes Rangers same as Knicks and the Rangers get the respect of the fans back after he changed the direction and started real rebuilding, hired respectable coach, and stop feeding bullsheet to the fans.
All I need to be OK about the team - mutual respect from the organization. Just tell me the truth no matter how bitter it is. And do not treat me like a moran.
I am not asking too much...

I am SO glad I'm not a GIANTS fan!
If you are still following the team and reading sites like this, there is nothing, short of your own demise, that is going to throw you off this train.

We have a guy in charge that spent $250mm in adding player salaries, hired and fired two hall of fame coaches, traded future draft picks and engineered the worst season in franchise history.

Aside from that the guy is totally awesome and I have no idea how fans could be so divided. At least not the TRUE fans

Yankees fans are pretty split... there are guys who hate Torre, those who love him... then there's the whole anti-ARod faction & those who support him... but overall i agree, Knick fans are the most divided on how this team is being run.
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

I think this happens for every team that is on the edge of the playoffs. Giants fans are like this. Ask 10 people if they think Eli has potential or not.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)
is any other team's fanbase as split as this one?
