I was curious as to how our players stacked up in points per shot which is basically just the total points divided by field goal attempts. It's an interesting measure of shooting effectiveness. Anyway, here are the top five in the league

1 - Dwight Howard
2 - Amare Stoudemire
3 - David Lee
4 - Eddy Curry
5 - Kevin Martin

I think there's a points per possession stat, which is much better because it takes into account missed FTs and TOs.

Good post.

This shows what I have been saying all along (to myself ): That Lee and Curry need more shots.

Curry is a legit 20-point scorer and shoots 58 percent, but averages just 12.4 shots per game. Granted, he gets fouled a lot, which skews the numbers a bit, but he still needs more shots than he gets. Curry still has plenty of room for improvement on offense, and I look for him to average at least 22 next year.

Lee shoots 61 percent yet averages just 7.1 shots. I think he has so much more of an upside on offense than he gets credit for. He is a skilled player. Sure he needs to work a lot on his shot, but he can score in other ways (and I'm not just talking about putbacks).

Once Curry knows how to pass out of a double team more effectively, and guards learn how to make an entry pass, he might be able to get more shots. I think its already being forced to him sometimes too much.

I think there's a points per possession stat, which is much better because it takes into account missed FTs and TOs.

The most comprehensive offensive efficiency stat is "true shooting percentage" or TS%. It takes into account a player's scoring efficiency in terms of 2FG%, 3FG%, and FT%. Lee currently ranks 3rd in the league in TS%. Curry takes a hit because of his poor FT%.

Cool; where can I find the player rankings on that stat?

Curry's problem is not the guards, they have been getting him the ball. DLee is nothing more than a garbage collector (in a good way) he collects all the loose balls and runs the floor. He is not a post up guy, he only needs to develop a mid range shot. Back to issue, teams have been doubling and tripling more and more. Some teams are doubling and tripling him before he gets the ball. The problem is the team doesn't still tries to force the ball in. We also need consistent shooters and curry must become smarter on the block. Why is Toronto so good ? They have players who can hit the open shot, whether it is a 3 or mid range 2. The team is pretty complete in that aspect. We don't have that, we have a ton of streak shooters.

Exactly. Which is why Isiah should spend every second of the offseason trying to get at least one legit shooter at the 2 or 3 and shop Jamal around the league till he drops. (Of course, Isiah will never trade Crawford, but a man can dream, can't he?)
