Past 10 games: 7.7 3 pt shots per game, shooting 47% from 3 pt range.

This is very uncharacteristic of our guy. Usually, when a defender is within' 5 feet of him, he just goes right to the basket, but he's definitely been settling for that long range J.

To his credit, he's been hitting his shots, and his shot selection isn't actually bad. It's fine. However, could this "Settling" by a result of him being in too much pain to take it to the basket all the time? Or is Isiah telling him to jack up a lot of 3s the way Jim O'Brien told Antoine Walker to do so. Is Marbury redefining his game or is this just kind of the flavor of the month right now, for him?

PS: This is not a Marbury bash or love fest beginning. Just some recent observations.

it could be that marbury isn't as effective driving because curry is clogging up the paint, so he is trying to become more a of a shooter to compliment the team, but i also think he is less explosive than he used to be.

Dude is stepping up. Knicks need someone to establish themselves as a legit threat from the outside since craw and Q are hurt.

Everybody has stuff they hate about marbs but this guy is slowly showing us what he is made of. Its great to see.

I think it could be all that-

First, I think Marbury is finally in the groove as far as his outside shot- early on in the season, it wasn't falling. Its picked up the last two months, especially of late since crawford went down.

And Isiah might be telling him to take what the defense gives- but he is shooting even when defended well.

isles fan will be on here soon to tell us that the knicks lower their basket to 9' or something inane and stupid like that.

i think he's just adjusted, esp. w/ Q out. knicks need someone to chuck up 3's, it might as well be STARbury.

there was a quote from a while back, some time after the brawl when his knee really started to bother him and he said he had been working on other parts of his game because he isn't as quick off the dribble with the tendinitis

He is playing to Eddy Curry's strength. If he keeps hitting these shots, then it will only open up for Eddy in the post.

nobody really guards him tight on the outside, so he should shoot the rock from deep.

If these teams are going to play a sagging zone to stop him from driving, then he's doing exactly what he should.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

I dont think he is settling, he needs to shoot threes right now because we dont have Jamal. When we have Jeffries/Malik and players like that in the game, marbury needs to step up and hit a 3 to keep the defense honest. Its a good thing, hes making a decent amount of them

47% from three point land is not bad, I would not mind seeing him take more if he can shoot that well from three...

Talk of Marbury settling too much or getting old on the basis of his recent 3 point shooting are premature. It could be that he's putting up more 3s just because he's been hitting them at a great clip, which would be a sign of intelligent decision making rather than a sign of mental or physical weakness. If he continues to put up a large volume of 3s even as his accuracy drops to substandard levels, then you might have a case.

My view is that he is a scorer and just a scorer. He's been doing a very good job of playing unselfish, but that's just not the type of player he is. If we want a player who can just set up the offense, hit the outside Js now and then and set guys up, then go after an Earl Watson or Eric Snow, or one of those guys. Or better yet, continue working with Mardy Collins. However, I don't care if he gets 8 assists or 1 assist or none, he still needs to score the ball to be an effective and winning player, as well as obviously play defense.

As far as the 3s, I didn't state my opinion just b/c I was too tired last night, but my thought is that though it's good he's making his 3s, I don't like some of the shots he's taking. Some of them are on the fast breaks and it really doesn't have anything to do with Curry. Again, I'm not sure why he's taking so many 3s lately. Eight a game, in my mind, is just way too many, and it's not part of his game. Though he might have lost a step, he's still very skilled and clever and strong, in terms of taking it to the bucket, so I'm thinking that maybe this is a new role that Isiah is asking him to take part in, simply b/c we NEED a shooter. Marbury is not a shooter though. It's like saying "OK Allan Houston, we have no slashers so you're gonna be our slasher now." It doesn't work that way. You gotto go out and get a shooter.

I'm not really placing any blame on anyone for this. Again, Marbury is playing well, hitting his shots and playing unselfish and is playing some defense. He's not the one to criticize on this team. I can't fault Isiah for this either. If Marbury can shoot it, and you got nobody else, than there's just nothing you can do about that right now. However, if Isiah still thinks that this is "THE TEAM" then he's just crazy. We need a REAL shooter who can go at least 45% from mid range and up consistently, to go with all the other things this team needs.

There is no such thing as taking too many shots in some absolute sense, regardless of context. I'd love for Marbury to take 30 3s a game if he could hit 47% of them.

His 3 point shooting is why we have won the last 3 times. If someone can consistently shoot +40% from 3
4 of 10= 12pts=efg60%
I'd like to bring in another 2 guard who can shoot 40+% from 3 who can also defend rebound with size i.e Morris Almond Brandon Rush type

I remember him making tons of 3's when he was with the Nets.
If you are still following the team and reading sites like this, there is nothing, short of your own demise, that is going to throw you off this train.

I was going to make a post about this a few games ago, but just never did thinking I was going to jinx him.

His shooting touch has been very good. He seems a lot more confident in his shooting than I have ever seen him. And when he is knocking down his jumpers he is pretty much unstoppable scoring wise.

Now Curry needs to get it going a little more so that we can kill them inside and out.
